At MAE, we bridge the gap between aspiration and ability. We cultivate the potential of our students by encouraging creative thinking and developing their scientifi c, practical and so skills, giving them the tools they need to engineer the future.

We use technology as an enabler and innovation as a means to make a lasting diff erence to academia, business, society and people.

At MAE, enduring ideas take off and take shape as business innovation. Our spin-off companies, engineered by our faculty and students and supported by the industry, continue to make waves in their business-savvy applications of robotics, artifi cial intelligence, automation and more.

MEET THE WOODEN WONDERNanyang Venture VI is a diesel-powered car handcra ed from wood by a team of MAE students at the Innovation@MAE Laboratory. Envisioning a future less reliant on fuel, the team designed the vehicle to address the world’s energy challenges. Nanyang Venture VI clocked an impressive 338km per litre of diesel at the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2014 and raced past over 100 international entries to take home the awards for Vehicle Design and Safety.

Associate – Buildings Mechanical, Aurecon Singapore (SEA) Pte Ltd

MAE gave me strong fundamentals that have proven useful since day one. The industrial attachment programme allowed me to gain working experience in diff erent roles before making my career choice. I was recently awarded the ACES Young Consulting Engineer of the Year 2017 (Mechanical Category) and a big part of my success belongs to the School.

iNSPIRATION iDEAS iNNOVATION iMPACT

MAE builds a holistic education programme that prepares its students to “get their hands dirty” and to make an impact in industry and beyond. Mandated with training engineers for Singapore’s needs since the school’s induction in 1982, we take pride in providing the very best education one can have. Through constant consultation and collaboration with our industry partners, we regularly update our curriculum to ensure that our students gain the right knowledge and skills to contribute to an evolving global economy.

To deliver the best education, the school is also home to the best minds from the top institutions around the world. Our faculty are at the forefront of research, leading cutting edge work that can potentially shape and infl uence societal and industrial trends. Our high impact research collaborations with leading industry partners are a strong testament to our research strengths and MAE is honoured to be able to continue to provide state of the art technological solutions to the industry. Innovation is in our DNA as well, with many of our faculty and students licensing our technologies and successfully spinning off companies to commercialize our research and disrupt current technological trends. These experiences will serve to provide our students with a well-rounded education to be a world changer and history maker in society.

As you peruse this booklet, I encourage you to contact us with your valuable feedback to help us grow and improve to provide a better education for our students.

The curriculum is very well-rounded. We are encouraged to broaden our perspectives with electives such as sports and arts or minors in business or entrepreneurship. My overseas exchange to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA was also an eye-opener. I was never one to dream big but MAE has inspired me to push the boundaries and aim higher.

LU ZHENMechanical Engineering, Year 3 Undergraduate

At MAE, I have been given opportunities to explore cutting-edge technologies such as additive manufacturing (3D printing). I was also able to lead a team to compete in the international RoboMaster competition. The sky is the limit here because there are endless opportunities to learn.

The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) has always endeavoured to challenge the status quo and break new grounds to become the preeminent institution in education, research and innovation. This is particularly important in today’s fast-paced and ever-changing world.
