St Mark UMC Nursery Worker Job Description Job Title: Nursery Worker Ministry Purpose To provide safe, secure, nurturing, clean and efficient care for our nursery age children. Pay Scale: Salary commensurate with experience. Job Description Responsible for age-appropriate care which includes: bottle feeding, changing diapers, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding, sitting with, and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, and play. Must be polite, friendly and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers. Arrive 30 minutes prior to nursery opening. Sunday hours from 8:30am-12:30pm. Must stay in the nursery until all children are secured with a responsible adult. Straighten room and clean any used toys/beds before leaving. Work Easter Sunday, the Sunday before, after and on Christmas, and may be asked about availability to work additional hours during extra services. Report to the Nursery Committee and/or SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee), who will conduct a job performance appraisal once a year. Communicate in advance, by phone and text, if there is going to be an absence (refer to Nursery guidelines). Requirements: Complete Safe Sanctuary Training Interact with small children on their level which may include kneeling, bending or lifting up to 20 lbs. Demonstrate self-direction, creativity, resourcefulness and organization. Demonstrate morals, ethics and passion for working with children. Demonstrate ability to work with people of various backgrounds. Abide by the nursery policies and procedures.(see attached Nursery Guidelines 2013) Document experience in the care of children 0-5 years of age with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities/characteristics. Must be 21 years of age or older. Be willing to submit to a background check and drug screening. Be willing to consider taking a flu shot annually. Maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) CPR training/certification for infants and children, or be willing to complete a CPR course at St. Mark’s expense before starting work.

Responsibilities:• All nursery personnel will demonstrate a professional work ethic at all times.• Assure that the nursery and environment is welcoming to parents and children.• Notify parents if children are in distress or in need of attention by sending a text to parent.• In case of an accident, promptly submit a written report to the pastor and the SPRC chair.• Follow guidelines of current Safe Sanctuary policy if there is suspected abuse.• Develop and administer a system of secure check-in and check-out for all children.• Regularly update documentation on each child with information on any allergies, (i.e. food,

medications or environmental).• Plan faith-based activities along with free play time for older children.• Post a calendar of upcoming events in the nursery for parents and church members to see.• Ensure that the nursery rooms are well-maintained, reporting any needed attention immediately

to the Board of Trustees for correction.• Sanitize toys and other surfaces on a regular, scheduled basis and utilize a check off sheet to be

signed by the staff member responsible for the cleaning.• Maintain proper hygiene at all times for the staff member and the children. Refrain from

smelling of smoke or wearing heave perfumes as many children have allergies and/or asthma.

Termination Policy:1) Dependability is essential. Tardiness and excessive unscheduled absences may result in termination

of employment.2) Immediate termination will occur in cases of intentional verbal, physical or emotional abuse or

neglect of any child, parent or church member.
