Ordinal numbers tell a sequence of events: First I woke up.

Second I took a shower.

Third I got dressed.

Fourth I ate breakfast.

Primero(a) first

Segundo(a) second

Tercero(a) third

Cuarto(a) fourth

Quinto(a) fifth

Sexto(a) sixth

Séptimo(a) seventh

Octavo(a) eighth

Noveno(a) ninth

Décimo(a) tenth

OJO: Ordinal numbers are placed before nouns and agree (in number and gender) with the nouns:

•El quinto año The fifth year

•La segunda mañana The second morning

•Son las primeras visitas. They are the first visitors.

NOTE: Primero and tercero drop the “o” before a masculine singular noun:

El primer día.

El tercer premio.
