Yael and Kenny Ripstein - The Leadership Award
Yael and Kenny are founding members of the KCT community. Both have lead and served a number of committees within the synagogue over these past ten years. Yael has served as a co-president of the youth committee and Kenny chaired both the ritual and education committees. In addition, Kenny has been an integral part of the shul’s leadership and serves as an executive board member. They are blessed with four children. Judah (14), Noah (12), Rami (9) and Nina (7) all having participated and flourished as part of KCT’s youth programs.Yael and Kenny’s communal activities are many as they are diverse in the greater Chicago area. They include Arie Crown Hebrew Day School, The Skokie Yeshiva, YU Torah Mitzion Kollel, Skokie Kollel, and the Chicago Community Kollel. Yael’s multigenerational involvement in Amit brings her great meaning and they both have their own list of causes which they support with consistency and silence. The Ripstein home is a paradigmatic example of Hachanasat Orchim and has often served as the venue for meetings of all kinds, guest shiurim, lectures, Oneg Shabbat’s, and the extended residence for KCT’s many guests.Yael received her B.A. from NYU and her Masters in Special Education from Columbia University. Kenny received his B.A from Yeshiva College (YU) and his Masters in Public Health from Hofstra University.KCT is privileged to honor Yael and Kenny Ripstein.
Julie and David Maeir - The Anne and Sy Okner z”l Avodat HaKodesh Award
David and Julie Maeir have been married for 8½ years. David is the father of Ariana and Caleb. Julie is the mother of Rachel, Rebekah and Eliana. They are also parents to their labradoodle, Roxy. David grew up in West Rogers Park and Israel. He is a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. Since graduating college, David has been working in the property management field. Julie grew up in Buffalo Grove and received her B.A. from the University of Illinois and her JD from Washington University in St. Louis. After practicing law, Julie moved her career to the area of legal recruiting, currently working for an international legal services provider. She is involved in Jewish United Fund, having served on the Young Women’s Board and now on the Community Outreach and Engagement Committee. Julie is also on the Associate’s Board for the Center of Jewish Genetics.David’s involvement in the Shul began as he moved to Skokie while courting Julie. Their wedding was the first and only wedding in the original KCT building. While not holding an official position at KCT, David offered his experience and resources in property management when issues arose in the former building. Since the new building’s inauguration, he was asked by one of the founding members to take a more active role in the day to day facility’s management. David is happy to take on any responsibility in helping KCT maintain this beautiful synagogue. David and Julie are proud to serve as co-chairs of the upcoming KCT JUF event in 2015.KCT is privileged to honor Julie and David Maeir.

Congratulations to
Julie and DavidIt takes a special willingness to offer services and skills to an enterprise
which entails huge amounts of time, expertise, knowhow and follow through.
To dedicate oneself to the betterment of the Klall requires an inner quality of dedication and satisfaction of helping the community.
David, you have given so much of yourself to KCT in so many different ways.
You have shared your knowledge and acumen in seeing to it that all aspects of the physical plant are addressed.
And you, Julie, have participated full measure by accommodating the heavy time commitment to make it all possible.
David, Joan and I have celebrated your goodness for many, many years.
We thank you both for all that you do for the KCT community.

Dad and JulieYou two are so deserving of the Avodat Hakodesh award.
You have been with the shul since day one, making sure things get done and helping when there is a problem.
Whether it is running over to the shul in the middle of dinner because there is a problem, going there at the crack of dawn to unlock a door,
or making sure something was cleaned or fixed the right way, you never let anything get in the way of helping the shul.
You helped with the security of the shul, you help set up kiddush, and you have really helped create a sense
of community that we feel when we go to shul.
We are SO proud that you are being recognized for your hard work.

Chazal (Bamidbar Rabbah 1:14) tell us that the greatness of Yehoshua was personified, not by the miracles that he performed, but rather by
his daily actions of setting up the benches and tables in the Study Hall.
Our Rabbis are teaching us that there is no greater mark of leadership for a people and a community than in the simple (and often not so simple)
actions that allow the daily operation of our religious institutions.
It is this spirit of Yehoshua that
David and Julie Maeirpersonify, and for that they are truly worthy of receiving
Anne and Sy Okner Z”L Avoday Hakodesh Award.
Thank you for all that you do for our shul and Mazal Tov on this truly deserving award.

Rabbi Jonathan Sacks has compared true leadership to the lighting one flame from another. Without diminishing their own abilities, great leaders increase the amount of “light” that they produce through empowering and inspiring others.
Kenny and Yael Ripsteinare not only leaders in their own right,
but they inspire so many of us in the community to rise up and lead along with them.
Mazal Tov on receiving the Outstanding Leadership Award
