November’s Speaker Vikki Pignatelli Vikki entered the world of quilting in 1991 at the urging of her sister and fellow quilter, Augie Ellis. A non-sewer at the time, Vikki attended a beginner's class and quickly fell in love with the art of quilting. Now a full-time professional quilt- artist, designer, international teacher, lecturer and author, Vikki and her quilts have been featured in many books, national publications and exhibitions. A self-taught artist with experience in painting (watercolor and oils) and sculpture, Vikki enjoys a passion for color and flowing designs. She developed a simple layering technique that is a blend of piecing and appliqué. She is the author of two books featuring this technique, "Quilting Curves” (Quilt Digest Press, 2001) and “Quilting By Improvisation” (Dragon Threads, 2006). Also, Vikki has written “how-to” articles published in Quilting Arts, Quilter’s Newsletter, and AQS magazines. Deeply influenced by her husband’s bout with cancer and his recovery in 1993, most of Vikki’s artwork now focuses on the themes of healing, spirituality, hope, and inspiration. In her writings and teaching, Vikki's focus is to inspire, nurture and develop the artistry and self-confidence within each quilter. This year will be different for block party We will not be turning in blocks for a drawingThere will be a different block each month but you will keep your own blocks and makethem into your own quilt for a drawing at the end of the year Better than a cash prize thewinner will receive a pillow made by Jean Impey If you want your background fabric to be the same allow approximately 2 frac12 yards Havea variety of coordinating fabrics and set them aside to use all year long on your quilt Youmay only need to make one block or you may need to make four blocks for that month Theinstructions will tell you how many to make

Here are some guidelines if you want to enter the contest to win the pillow made by Jean

1 Each monthrsquos block or blocks must be included and sewn together for a completed quilt top

WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN

2 The quilt top does not need to be quilted

3 Bring your completed quilt top to the October ~ 2013 meeting to have your name included in the raffle for for the beautiful pillow by Jean Impey

4 You may substitute only one monthrsquos block if you so choose
