A Time of Thanksgiving

Here we are as the year flies by us and we see November and

Thanksgiving nearby. As this year winds down and we stop a moment

to reflect on the things that we have seen and been involved in, I hope

that we stop a moment to be thankful even before we celebrate Thanks-

giving Day.

As your interim pastor I begin with my thanks for the opportunity to

serve Oak Grove. This has truly been a blessing to me. On top of the

many new friends that I count as being blessed with, I have been able to

see the Lord do many good things and seeing His hand at work is al-

ways encouraging. I have experienced and learned a great deal and en-

joyed the privilege of worshipping with you.

I have celebrated seeing new members come into the church and the

joy of the fellowship that we have here, I have been blessed to partici-

pate in a great Vacation Bible School and have seen the wonderful

youth group and the amazing questions they ask. Yet even on a more

personal note I have come to be a part of many of your lives and have

celebrated your joys and have been with you in times of trials.

The amazing part of this is that the response from us on both of these

is the same. We need to thank God! In the good times we need to

count our blessings and understand that our God is the source of every

good thing that we enjoy and realize that He wants good for His people.

When life brings trials we need to understand that we are not by

ourselves, we are facing them along with many of our brothers and sis-

ters and understand that God has allowed them in our lives for a pur-

pose. It may be to teach us a valuable lesson, to grow our faith or to

empower our Christian witness, but they were allowed there for a rea-

son. While we may not understand that at the moment, the time will

come when we will. They have not overcome us and they will not be

allowed to. God is with us and is still the answer to every challenge we

face.

As the apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 6:9-10 “As unknown and

yet well known; as dying and behold we live; as chastened and yet we

are not killed, as sorrowful and yet rejoicing, as poor yet making many

rich; as having nothing and yet possessing all things.”

We have not endured to this state as Paul did. Our own trials make

us as uncomfortable yet we can and should be thankful that our God

knows our situation and has not left us to fend for ourselves. Regard-

less of our situation in life now our proper response is to be thankful to

God. He will see us through..

God’s Blessings,

David

Newsletter Notes

From around the Southern Province

Home Church scheduled a “Guess Who’s Coming to Din-ner” weekend October 23-25 with guests and hosts meeting in homes but not knowing who is attending until they arrive. It’s a great way to meet Home’s newest members, and since 2013 that is 50 of them. Fifty! Why, that’s a small church worth. Where’s my name tag?

To help make it an even friendlier church, Olivet is join-ing the name tag bandwagon. That way we can get to know people other than the ones who always sit next to us in our “(un)official assigned seats.”

Update on Salem Congregation’s brick paver project in the old section of Salem God’s Acre: “They’re beautiful!” That observation was made for the walkways where the old as-phalt has been replaced by brick. They are certainly more lev-el, making them safer to walk upon when the job is finished. It’s a long process — never calculated how many miles of walkway the old section has. But it is slowly coming from the Sisters’ sections at the top of the hill toward the Moravian Archives and Moravian Music Foundation at the bot-tom.

Now hear this! Friedland has taken on a major sound

system renovation. Hope the sermons are now getting

through loud and clear. Otherwise, we can be Baptist and

have “altar calls” to the front pews of the sanctuary, rather

than our “(un)official assigned seats” in the back.
