Holy God, hear our prayer. You send prophets, and apostles, and a savior to help us, to save us, to raise us, and our response is to question you. Forgive us we pray for our grumbling and complaining. You heal someone‟s beloved and we are quick to ask, “Why not this one too?” You shower food upon us, and we complain that our stomachs are hungry. Forgive us. Forgive us not for our doubts, but for our limited sight. Open wide before us the vista of grace, and the expanse of your love, and the wonder of your healing power. Through Christ we pray. Amen. Sermon Notes:

Key Concept God is still healing today. The Greek word that means “I save” also means “I heal.” God is concerned not just about our spiritual salvation, but our whole being. One day we shall have a new and perfect body. In this life we will never reach perfection. When God heals someone miraculously today, we get a glimpse of the future when the final redemption of our bodies will take place. (Romans 8:23)

Building and Grounds – Did You Know? While we stay up to date on our elevator inspections and maintenance, the FPCP elevator is very basic in its features and function. For example, if there is a power outage, the elevator stops where it is at the time of the failure and a relatively dim emergency light illuminates the car – you‟re stuck. Just ask any B&G member about possible alternatives. More questions about what to do in an emergency? Ask any B&G member about an interactive PowerPoint presentation that covers key points and allows you to ask questions.

Presbyterian Women Offer Discussion of Strength In What Remains by Tracy Kidder

Monday, November 26, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Copies are available at the public library or on Amazon for under $15.

In Strength In What Remains, Tracy Kidder gives us the story of one man‟s inspiring American journey and of the ordinary people who helped him, providing brilliant testament to the power of second chances. Deo arrives in the United States from Burundi in search of a new life. Having survived a civil war and genocide, he lands at JFK airport with two hundred dollars, no English, and no contacts. He ekes out a precarious existence until he meets the strangers who will change his life, pointing him eventually in the direction of Columbia University, medical school, and a life devoted to healing. Kidder breaks new ground in telling this unforgettable story as he

travels back over a turbulent life and shows us what it means to be fully human. This is the second book discussion offered by Presbyterian Women for 2018-2019 in a series, “Their Stories”.

All are welcome to the discussion at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel on November 26.

What is Fair Trade and Why Does It Matter? Everyone likes a bargain, but you have to wonder about a T-shirt that costs only five dollars. How is

it possible for someone to grow the cotton, harvest it, make it into a shirt, transport it, sell it on to a retailer, and still make a profit for a price like that? The answer should be blindingly obvious, but some choose to ignore it. Cut-price clothes and food are all too often produced by exploiting people in developing countries, who make the cheap goods we've come to love by working long hours for low pay, often in appalling conditions. We try not to put up with this in our country, but when the label says "Made in India" or "Made in Chile", we conveniently push it to the back of our minds. Fortunately, many people are waking up to the basic unfairness of this type of world trade.

Fair trade is a different system that starts from the premise that workers’ lives have a value; this social benefit is partly

what you pay for when you buy something. Fair trade doesn't just mean farmers and producers receive more money so they can support their families in the short term—though that's vitally important. It also means they work under long-term contracts so their communities have enough security to invest in improvements both to their businesses (with more land or animals or better machinery) and their societies (with things like schools or health clinics). Typically, fair-trade producers are small cooperatives of workers using no child or forced labor, using organic or environmentally sustainable methods, and having high standards of animal welfare. Workers are free to join unions and bargain collectively to help improve their lives. On the first Sunday of each month you have the opportunity to support Fair Trade by purchasing coffee and tea available for sale in the Narthex. Your purchase is a way of doing business that ultimately aims to keep small farmers an active part of the world marketplace, and aims to empower consumers to make purchases that support their values. Tip of the Month: Make a personal commitment to say "no" to plastic straws. Whenever ordering a drink, politely request “no straw, please.” Encourage your friends and family to take the pledge, too! You have more power than you think. Want to take your impact even further? Use your own paper, glass, bamboo or stainless steel straw instead, and start a conversation. FPCP Partners in Earth Care

Festival of Tables - Narthex Display This year‟s theme is DOLLS. Do you have a doll you would be willing to loan on Sunday, Dec. 2 for display, through the Festival of Tables on Monday evening? If so, please bring it to the Narthex by 12:00 p.m. Sunday, December 2. We hope to have a large variety. Please label dolls and any boxes with your name. We ask you to take your doll with you as you leave the Festival of Tables. Monday night Those left should be picked up from the Narthex on Tuesday.

Salvation Army Angel Tree

Share the joy of Christ's birth by adopting an Angel of your own!

Please consider joining in the effort to ensure every child in our area has a blessed Christmas!

Again this year, FPCP is pleased to support the Salvation Army through their Angel Tree program, to collect new gifts and clothing for needy children and their families in our local community. To participate, please choose a tag from the Angel Tree located in the Narthex. Gift ideas are listed on each tag to make shopping a little easier, but you do not need to purchase exactly what is listed on the tag.

Bring your new, unwrapped gift(s) back to the church no later than Sunday, December 9th.

Please secure the tag to your gift items. The Deacons will deliver the gifts to the Salvation Army for distribution to local children and families.

Merry Christmas, Church Family! We are a family of faith. In the Narthex, the Deacons have provided a folding screen where, with one Christmas card, you can greet your entire church family. This is an opportunity to save your time, money and the Earth‟s resources. Bring your own card OR choose one from an assortment available at our table in the Narthex on Sunday mornings until Dec. 23. Please donate the amount of money, large or small, that you might have spent on cards for your church family. Checks can be made out to FPCP with “Deacons‟ Christmas Cards” on the memo line. This project helps the Deacons raise funds for some of the good causes we support, such as College Care gift cards, Local Mission, and Food and Fellow-ship events. You may leave your cards in the folder on the screen, or with Stu Dodge, Church Business Manager. Thank you from the Deacons and your church family!
