God, our shelter and our strength, you listen in love to the cry of your people: hear the prayers we offer for our departed brothers and sis-ters. Cleanse them of their sins and grant them the fullness of re-demption. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
REFLECTION ON THE WORD OF GOD OF KINGS AND KINGSHIP Americans have an uncomfortable relationship with kings. The American Revolution was fought for independ-ence from King George, after all. Nonetheless, today every Catholic church around the world celebrates the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Today’s feast invites us to look beyond our national loyalties and rejoice in our primary identity. We are children of God in Jesus, Christ the King. Our readings help us consider what it’s like to belong to God’s kingdom. The book of Samuel captures the deep longing of the Israelites for a king to shepherd them. Saint Paul reminds the Colossians that we belong to the kingdom of Christ, whose power he praises in a beautiful hymn. Finally, Luke’s Gospel calls to mind the kind of king Jesus chooses to be—a suffering servant, a man for others. By sacrificing his life for us, Jesus throws open the gates of Paradise. KING OF ALL
On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we cele-brate the solemnity of Christ the King. By con-cluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peo-ples, and all of creation. At the end of time as we know it, Christ's work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their
Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to partic-ipate in Christ's saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls "the least ones" (Matthew 25:45).
Jesus VR is an immersive visual story-telling experience based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
Screenings will be held at the Cultural Center on the Christ Cathedral Campus from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31.

DE REYES Y REINADOS Los estadounidenses tienen una relación incomoda con los reyes. La Revolución Estadounidense se pe-leó para lograr la independencia del Rey Jorge, des-pués de todo. Sin embargo, hoy cada iglesia católica alrededor del mundo celebra la Solemnidad del Nues-tro Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo. La celebra-ción de hoy de la Iglesia nos invita a ver más allá de nuestras lealtades nacionales y regocijarnos en nues-tra primera identidad. Somos hijos de Dios en Jesús, Cristo el Rey. Nuestras lecturas nos ayudan a consi-derar cómo pertenecer al Reino de Dios. El libro de Samuel captura el profundo anhelo de los israelitas por un rey que los pastoree. San Pablo recuerda a los colosenses que pertenecemos al reino de Cristo, cuyo poder alaba en un hermoso himno. Por último, el Evangelio de Lucas evoca el tipo de rey que Jesús elige ser, un siervo sufriente, un hombre para los de-más. Al sacrificar su vida por nosotros, Jesús abre las puertas del Paraíso. En el continente Americano encontramos imágenes de Cristo en las montañas como Cristo Re-dentor en Brasil, o Cristo de los Andes, entre Chile y Argentina, o el Cristo Rey en Colombia; todos obser-vando calladamente pesares y progresos de sus pue-blos y naciones. En toda Latinoamérica se grita espe-ranzadamente “Viva Cristo Rey”. La Iglesia universal honra a Cristo con el título de Rey solo desde 1925, pero siempre tuvo la certeza que el pobre Jesús de Nazaret es nuestro Maestro y Señor y, contra él no pueden las fuerzas del mal ni la injusti-cia. Terminando el año litúrgico, es justo y necesario recordar y festejar que Jesús reina para siempre. En Latinoamérica y en todas partes donde la injusticia pare-ce dominar, Cristo Rey es con-tinuo recuerdo de la promesa divina; de la esperanza de un mundo mejor no allá en el cielo sino aquí en la tierra renovada.
