ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH

FROM YOUR PASTOR

STEWARDSHIP

As we approach Thanksgiving Day it is important for us to pause and re- flect on our own sense of gratitude for all that we have. The Gospel story of the healing of the ten lepers illustrates the importance of thankfulness. Al- though it was not imperative in their actually healing (faith is) it separated the nine from the tenth who recognized

what had happened and returned to show his deep grati-tude. Not only had Jesus freed him from his physical con-tagion; he also validated the Samaritan as a human being worthy of respect even if he was a foe of the Jews. He was given a second chance at life. Where as the others re-turned to their old ways of living, this Samaritan was now free to walk a different path, namely one which followed Jesus with a new vision. Our healing may not be as dra-matic but may we recognize that Jesus is inviting us to a whole new way of life. May we be people of thankfulness seeing the world anew.

Fr. Jim

Please remember in your prayers those who are ill: Eileen Thompson, Anita Childs, Raymond Narlock (brother of Leona Narlock), Michelle Baus (daughter of Lu Baus), and Lee Habryle

Please remember in your prayers those who have died: Your own special intentions

As of November 13, 2019 our results are: Goal=$1,300.00 Amt. pledged=$595,831=45.8% of goal # families= 1160 #pledges rec’d=311=26.8% of goal Avg. weekly pledge= $36.84

Thank you for your participation in our Annual Renewal of Treasure! We are deeply grateful for those of you, who have turned in a pledge card. For those of you, who haven’t yet pledged, we appreciate you dropping your card in our offertory basket at Mass, mailing it to the parish or entering your pledge on Faith direct.

The Christmas Giving Tree is a great example of Living a Legacy of Love. The families that are invited to the Giving Tree store are filled with so many emotions as they walk through the store – gratitude, hope, relief, joy and they feel our love. They feel the love that our parish community is bestowing upon them during a season where so many may feel hopeless, full of despair, over-whelmed and depressed. While they leave the Giving Tree Store with gifts for their children, basic household items, a holiday meal and some gift cards, they also leave knowing that a community took the time to let them know that they matter. They have not been forgot-ten and that they are loved.

This week we continue our “Live a Legacy of Love” series. Each of our upcoming bulletins will feature an article from parishioners and staff on how they feel St. John the Baptist reflects this year’s theme. Please contact Anne Frederick if you would like to submit an article.

St John’s Christmas Giving Tree The St. John's Giving Tree is up and shining! This year, our goal is to provideprovide Christmas joy to at least 80 families. Each family is invited to the St. John’s Christmas Giving Store, where they can select gifts for their children, basic household items, a holiday meal and gas and grocery gift cards. How can you help? Please grab a tag or two from the Christmas Giving Tree table in the Nar-thex. Please return your unwrapped gift to the parish by De-cember 15. For those who prefer to shop online, we have creat-ed a St. John the Baptist 2019 Giving Tree Amazon wish list (https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2YH422YRO61TO?ref_=wl_share) and gifts can be sent directly to St. John’s. Monetary donations are also welcome. Checks can be made payable to St John the Baptist and please note Christmas Giving Tree on your check. In addition to supporting families, we will also be supporting H.O.M.E., Pregnancy Aid and St. John Safe Parking. If you have any questions or are interested in helping with the Christmas Giving Tree, please contact Andrea Shimek at 206-890-1005 or [email protected] We are also looking for a few individuals and/or families to assist with Giving Tree gift collection before and after each mass. A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT

FAITH FORMATION

LIFE, JUSTICE, & PEACE

O God, grant that whatever good things I have, I may share generously with those who have not, and whatever good things I do not have, I may request humbly from those who do.” –St. Thomas Aquinas

Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe: In today’s Gospel we hear of the rulers who sneered at Jesus, the soldiers who jeered at him, the criminal who reviled him, and the people who just stood by. At our own parish church the cross stands high. Yet, every Sunday there are those who sit in front of it and are not moved by it. There are people who walk right by the cross, unmoved by it. Perhaps they’ve walked by it so many times they no longer give it a second thought. Could it be they are unmoved because the heart of this unbelieving thief is in them? Good stewards walk by the cross, notice it and ask themselves: “All this you did for me, what have I done for you?”

This year the children of SJTB lead the 4 pm Mass on Christ-mas Eve! The Gospel reading is brought to life by Life Teen and 4th grade actors while the sweet Angel Choir of preschool-ers thru 5th graders lift their voices to the heaven announcing Jesus’ birth. All are welcome! If your child enjoys acting, sing-ing or reading, this would be a great chance for them to partici-pate in the Nativity of Our Lord liturgy and share their fit of time and talent! No experience necessary. Rehearsals: Wed. Dec. 11 @ 4:30-6:00 pm Wed. Dec. 18 @ 4:30—6:00 pm Sat. Dec. 21 @ 10:am-noon Contact: Amy Bonte [email protected]
