There is a contemporary Christian song which begins with the lyrics:
“Your love is amazing
Steady and unchanging
Your love is a mountain
Firm beneath my feet.”
We live in a world that is constantly changing. Our lives are often met with change. Creation is
changing too. The leaves begin to change color. The birds change locations as they migrate. The sky
becomes darker earlier with each passing day in this season. Changes are all around us. Some are natural.
Some are expected. Some are welcomed. Some surprise us. Some frustrate us. Some worry us.
And yet one thing, or rather one being, never changes. God is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow,
and for all eternity. His love is unchanging, which I find a much needed word of hope and certainty in a
time and world full of change.

The psalmist says it this way, “For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his
faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100:5)
We serve God Almighty who promises to walk with us through every valley, to lead us to the still
waters. We serve Almighty God who offers us healing, forgiveness, and freedom through his son Jesus
Christ. We serve Almighty God whose love endures forever. A love that changed the world, and us who
believe, forevermore. A love that bids us welcome when the world turns its back on us. A love that says
“come to me all ye who are weary......” A love that though it changes us, is unchanging. A mountain firm
beneath our feet. Enduring forever. Beyond this season. Beyond this time of change. Beyond this burden.
Beyond this day. Inviting us to find strength and rest in him. Inviting us to come together in and through
his love to share in this journey, care for one another, and share each others’ burdens. Sending us out into
the world to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world through God’s unchanging
love.
So may we trust in him. May we rest in him. May we hold fast to him. And may we find assurance
in his love for us and for his world as we enter into this month, embracing all that is before us, knowing
that he is with us and his love can change the world and each of us in it.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Coffey
Fairview’s local missions continue to reach out to the surrounding area as we continue with the monthly
community meal and adult clothes closet, as well as feeding the homeless the first Saturday each month. We have
also provided furnishings for a family whom we have helped in the past as they move into their new home.
As we gear up for the holidays, check out a few upcoming projects. We have 25 children from the prison
ministry available for anyone willing to adopt them for Christmas giving. We have opted to allow another group to
oversee the Salvation Army Christmas stocking project so that we can reach out in different areas. However, the
Salvation Army will still have seasonal needs, so we will be share volunteer dates as they are announced. We will be
hosting a Salvation Army tree here at Fairview that will include child and adult angels. In addition, we will include
paper angel donations in honor or memory of loved ones. The Mission Committee will gladly send letters of
acknowledgement to a family or recipient of your choice. This is an option for individuals that may not be able to
sponsor an angel in full. We will combine these donations to sponsor angels through Fairview as a church.
As a mission of the church, we plan on organizing a Christmas party for the women at the Truth House, a
local life recovery refuge for women. There will be more information on this as we move closer to the holiday season.
Most importantly, please be sure to not overload yourself, but allow yourself to feel the presence of Christ
and experience the love, the peace, and the awe of Christ’s birth.
Thank you to those that came out for our Holiday Bazaar! This event continues to be successful each year.
Missions took in $395.00, animal rescue received $33.00, and our youth raised $137.00 with their bake sale. The
Henry Hardy Sunday school class earned $40.00 selling their dishcloths, ane the Koinonia class sold their spaghetti
sauce and dinner tickets. We were able to donate 1 large box of toys to the Salvation Army and 86 pounds of food for
God’s Storehouse. Fairview was also blessed to share literature and kindness from our church, which continues to
bring people in from the community to Fairview. My prayer is that they felt welcomed and cared for through the
kindness and love inside our church.

Happy November!
This year has flown by and
I am finding it hard to
believe that November is
here! I am really excited
about some of the changes
that are taking place. As
many of you have already
heard or read, starting
November 1, there are
changes in my job title and
my duties here at Fairview.
My new title is Director of
Student Ministries; that’s a
fancy way of saying that I
will be responsible for the
ministries for children, youth, and college-aged students.
My family and I are excited and a tad nervous as the
changes take place. This decision took place with a lot of
prayer by us and many here at Fairview to discern what is
best for Fairview in this season and I am thankful to be the
answer to those prayers. Please know that there will be
many needs and volunteer jobs to be filled as we transition
in the days, weeks and months ahead. Please also be in
prayer about where God may be calling you to serve in
order to help grow and strengthen the ministries here at
Fairview. I know that I have big shoes to fill and am
thankful to Miranda Harden and Christi Ragsdale for all
they have done and will do to make this transition as
smooth as possible for the families here at Fairview. I also
know that I have Juli Odell to thank as well. In her time
here as a co-worker and friend, Juli taught me a lot. I miss
her and her knowledge, and I will strive to continue to
grow and nurture what has now been entrusted to my care.
November will be a busy time. I am really excited
about the things that I can see coming up.
Our youth will continue to serve at the VFW on
the first Friday evening of each month. For those of you
who don’t know, this is an ongoing service project for our
youth to participate in. They have the opportunity to serve
meals to all who attend the monthly steak supper. I am
excited to attend my first one this month and encourage
our youth and congregation to join me.
November 10 is our Young Hearts Veterans Day
Celebration for those who are 70 or older in the
congregation. We have a fun time planned and the children
will be singing as well. Please call the church office to sign
up so we can get a good headcount.
November 17 Fairview will host our first Share
Hope Saturday, a mini Get RAK’d event for the entire
church (all ages) to bring Christ to our community through
random acts of kindness. I think this will be an awesome
time for fellowship and mission work! Our goal is for this
to be a great time of fellowship and community mission for
people of all ages.
JUMP and Youth Group will continue as
scheduled through the month of November. We are always
happy to have new people to volunteer to enjoy time with
us!
Please pray for our middle school youth November
9-11 and our high school youth November 30-December 2
as they enjoy the Conference Retreats. I am excited to
join them for these.
All of this talking about what is to come reminded
me of something I would like to share with you. This past
September I was leading an Emmaus Team and during that
time, God gave me the scripture from Exodus 17: 8-13. I
thought at the time He sent those words to me for that
particular season, and while they did prove helpful during
that time, they also are quite appropriate for this season as
well. In this scripture, Joshua is asked to pick an army and
fight the Amalekites. Moses tells Joshua that he will go to
the top of the hill nearby and hold up the stick that God
told him to carry. While Moses held up the stick, Joshua
was winning, but as his arms grew weary and started to
fall, Joshua began to lose the battle. Thankfully Aaron and
Hur were there with Moses to help hold up his arms and
Joshua defeated the Amalekite army. I love this scripture
because it is such a picture of what we are called to do as
the Body of Christ. We are called to hold each other up, to
help strengthen each other as we grow weary. That is the
only way the battles of this world can be won. I want to
thank you in advance for helping our church and me as we
transition in the upcoming months. Thank you for helping
each of us “hold up our arms”.
After many weeks of interviewing, praying, and discerning, the SPRC has exciting news to share! Beginning November
1, Katherine Lewis will move into a new position here at Fairview titled “Director of Student Ministries.” Thank you for
your continued prayers and support during this time of transition.
Hello Fairview family!
As we venture into the months of November and December, let us remember to
give thanks for everything we have, especially family! I am thankful that God put my
family at a church where we have been able to worship, laugh, cry, and most
importantly grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ.
These past few weeks have been rough for the city of Danville with all the
flooding, the power outages, the damage, and sadly the loss of life. I believe that in
these trying moments, we can find peace in knowing that nothing is out of God’s
control, and even the most severe storm can not shake a city, a family, or anything that
is built on the solid rock of God our Father.
I want to remind everyone that the children’s choir will be singing at the Young
Hearts Luncheon on November 10. Thank you to all the parents and kids who are
participating in this event! The veterans and their families will be truly blessed! The
Christmas cantata is coming up quick, and the children’s rehearsals are being held
every Sunday from 11-11:30 in the choir room downstairs. I appreciate everyone’s
commitment and let’s keep working hard. The adult choir has made several comments about how impressed they are
with the children’s efforts to learn the music!
The praise team is always looking for more singers, and the altar is always open. If you wish to join the team
or to share your heart with the church through music during offertory or special music on Sunday, please let me
know. May the grace of God be with each of you always!
As two members from one of our teams had just delivered
buckets with bags of food which were placed in the hallway at Park
Avenue School, a woman asked if we had brought the bags. We said,
“Yes, from Fairview United Methodist Church.” She spoke to us and
told us she was a retired teacher working at the school that day. With a
tear in her eye she thanked us over and over again for feeding the
children, many of whom were probably very hungry after being out of
school due to Tropical Storm Michael. She was very moved because
she had been in the school system for years, known many who did not
have enough to eat, and was so happy that Fairview was helping.
Thanks to all who support this ministry! We began the first
week of October delivering 83 bags a week to Park Avenue. Now we
are up to 88 bags a week. If you help financially, are part of one of four
teams that sets up, packs, and delivers once a month, or are the person
keeping the food closet full of food, or administering this program, you
are appreciated and blessed as hungry children are fed.
Our LORD said in Matthew 14:16, “But Jesus said to His
disciples ‘They do not need to go away; you give them something to
eat.’”
Please contact Lynn Clark or Suzanne Giffen to become a team
member or to support the program financially for the glory of God and
the good of His people.
Congratulations to Claude Berger (left)
and Francis Berger (right), who were
awarded perfect attendance certificates
by the Friendship Sunday School class
in September. Claude and Francis will
begin their 4th year of perfect
attendance on Sunday, November 4.
They challenge everyone in the church
to commit to attend services weekly!
