Mandatory Code of Ethics Training Must Be Completed by December 31, 2018
NAR Code of Ethics Training (to be completed every two years) must be completed by December 31. If not completed by this date, all services must be suspended (per NAR) until such time the course is completed. This includes MLS services.
If you are in doubt if you fulfilled this requirement, please call us at the Association Office and we can verify if you have satisfied this requirement of membership.
The course can be completed two ways. You can take a WRA CE Course 4 class or you can take the free NAR Course online. Beware this requirement may not be fulfilled taking courses from other providers.
To access the free course, go to www.larawebsite.com and click on the upper left but-ton labeled “NAR Code of Ethics Course”. You will need your NRDS number to take the NAR Course. Call the Association Office and we will provide this number to you. Please provide a copy of the certificate upon completion. We will then update your member-ship record.
If you have any questions, please call 608-785-7744 and we will be happy to assist you.

President is Spokesperson for the Organization
It is important in creating the best public impression of the Association that any statements regarding the activities of the Association or its public positions come from an official source in the Association. This allows for coordination and clarity in the Association’s message.
Our policy is to have the Association President, or someone specifically designated by the President in particular situations, as the only spokesperson for the Association. Our Presidents have spokesperson training and an understanding of the entire Association and how its parts fit together.
If you are contacted by anyone, including the media, for any report on the Association or its activities, refer them to the Association office and arrangements will be made to respond.
Social Media for REALTORS®
Do’s & Don’ts
DO Promote yourself and your business, but DON’T overdo it.
DO Let readers know you are a real estate professional, but DON’T do it by broadcasting listings/sales. People want to know you as a person, not just by your profession.
DO Remember that you want to be where your current and prospective clients are. Make it easy for people to find you.
DON’T Focus on the number of people you connect with; focus on the connections that will provide you with value. Follow people who have many followers and similar interests.

How Well Do You Know The REALTOR®
Code of Ethics?
Article 17 – When representing a buyer, seller, landlord, tenant, or other client as an agent, REALTORS® pledge themselves to protect and promote the interests of their client. This obligation to the client is primary, but it does not relieve REALTORS® of their obligation to treat all parties honestly. When serving a buyer, seller, landlord, tenant or other party in a non-agency capacity, REALTORS® remain obligated to treat all parties honestly.
(Amended 1/01)
Key Points
• Using race or any other characteristic covered by fair housing laws in decisions related to the provision of housing opportunities is prohibited.
• Collection of information regarding the race of applicants or prospects has often been suspect and may indicate that race is being used as a factor.
• Collection of such information, however, for affirmative purposes, like self monitoring of fair housing compliance, is not illegal, nor suspect.
• The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® recommends that you indicate your perception of a prospect’s race on the equal service report form. If a sales associate has a tendency to treat people differently because of race, the sales associate will treat a prospect according to the sale’s associates persecution of the prospect’s race.
• If a prospect questions why you are keeping information on race, simply inform the prospect that your firm regularly monitors its sales associate’s actions to assure that all prospects are treated fairly and equally. The collection of this information helps the broker make sure that there are no differences of treatment based on race. You should keep the information on race separate from any applications or offers on the property so there is little chance that third parties who have not met the prospects will have knowledge of the prospect’s
race.
When you encounter discrimination
• Abide by NAR’s advice on reporting acts of discrimination
BUILDING A NATION OF NEIGHBORS
“Why is this question on race included on the equal service forms?
Isn’t it illegal to ask information regarding race?”

Meditation on the Go
• While you’re on a walk…sync your breathing to the steps you take, walking slow-ing (without ear buds) and consciously while focusing on the movement to quiet the mind.
• While you’re eating lunch…focus on chewing each bite slowly, noticing the fla-vors, textures, and smells for maximum enjoyment.
• While stuck in traffic….repeat a relaxing phrase or word, such as “calm” to your-self, this will prevent distracting and anxious thoughts from entering your mind.
• While at the office….make the “you’ve got mail” chime a reminder to return to calm. Pause, close your eyes, and take a deep breath every time you hear it.
• When arguing with a friend….silently repeat IN on the inhale and OUT on the exhale to help keep you calm and centered and curb knee-jerk reactions.
