November 2017 – Website: RVWheelers.com PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The car show at Club House 5 on October 21 was a big success and we had lots of people stop by our booth, asking questions about the RV Club. Mardi Reese had her class C there and was surprised at how many people went inside to take a look. Our thanks to Val and Ann Lester and Pat Noonan for helping out answering questions. Our annual Christmas party is fast approaching and it is very important that you make your reservation by November 30 as this event fills up quickly. Again, it will be in Club House 7, across from the golf course. Since there is no gate there, our non-resident members do not have to be called in. We think you will really enjoy the entertainer we have chosen this year. Also we will have a shorter happy hour and eat a little earlier than usual, so take note of the start time. Check out the flyer and send in your check!! A big thank you to so many of our members who have kindly submitted their 2018 membership dues so early. We really appreciate that. At least for now, the dues are still $15/person ($30/couple); still one of the lowest membership fees in the Village. If nothing has changed (your spot number, rig, email address, etc.), just check the renewal box at the top – no need to fill in the entire form with anything other than your name. If things have changed, check the “renewal and change” boxes and enter the new info. If we don’t have your picture yet, please email one to [email protected] so we can see how beautiful you are. It helps us become better acquainted too. Remember you can bring your renewal to the November meeting too. Lastly, please let Ed Bauman know if you would consider being a host or co-host for a rally next year or if you have an idea for a new venue. We need your help!! Remember we are a camping club and that’s what we do!! NEW MEMBERS

Welcome to all our new members this past month: Ravi & Sam Singh and Nels & Marsha Larson. And a big welcome back to Loyde & Teresa Stewart who were members many years ago, and welcome back to Rick & Helson Wilson who are back after a short absence. We are happy to have them be a part of our club. Please introduce yourself to them when you see them at a meeting or rally. You should see their listing in our membership directory soon. Our thanks to those of you who promote our club to your friends and those you may see in our RV lots who may not know of us.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Again, this year we will give a free individual 2018 club membership to the current member who brings in the most new

members between September and December 31, 2017. Remember, those who sign up now get the rest of this year and all of 2018 for $15/person.

Be sure to carry applications with you in your car and RV and put your name on the "referred by" line (see application attached). Take a look at the back side of the application to talk up our "benefits". Remember, there is power in numbers. WE WANT YOUR INPUT

Our club officers have regular meetings with VMS staff to voice concerns and track responses. With that in mind, a new page on the Wheelers website has been developed to receive input from you on RV Lot concerns that you would like to see addressed. If you have concerns, please also include your suggestions for solutions to those concerns. Of current concern is the RV lot fee for next year. It is going to $320 a year, so now is the time to voice our issues about lot maintenance, security, etc. These can then be collected and presented as club issues to VMS. It is our hope that by doing it this way we will get a better response than individually submitted issues. Please see the input submission form on our website www.rvwheelers.com. You can get to the form under the “Contact Us” page. A click on “Give Us Your Input” or going to www.rvwheelers.com/infoform.html will take you directly there.

=============================================================== NOVEMBER MEETING Tim Moy, Security Director for Laguna Woods Village, will give a visual presentation to the RV Wheelers. The meeting is on Thursday, November 9th, at 6:30PM, at Clubhouse 6. Chief Moy will bring us up to date on the RV lots, waiting lists, upgrades, and general security in the village. Afterwards, enjoy socializing with fellow RV’ers over refreshments. All interested RV’ers are welcome to attend the meetings so if you have friends who are not members, invite them. We will also be introducing our proposed slate of officers for 2018 and open the floor for any other nominations. Your vote is important, so please come if you can.

DON’T FORGET TO BRING YOUR SODA TABS FOR THE RONALD McDONALD HOUSE!!

ONE SAN FRANCISCO PRETZEL JUG is filled with Aluminum Tabs (we counted once at about 10,000). Please remember to bring any TABS you have to the November meeting

RV WHEELERS GENERAL MEETING MINUTES

OCTOBER 12, 2017 Officers present included: Dee Wennerstrom; Doug Gibson; Bruce Block; and Fred Burt. Dee started the meeting at 6:00pm. The theme for tonight’s meeting was a Pizza Party along with two member presentations describing recent RV trips. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Sam Higa. October birthdays and wedding anniversaries were recognized. Dee thanked the ladies who set up the Pizza Party and those who helped by providing a number of delicious salads to go with the pizza. About 6:10pm the pizza was served. Three different types of Costco super-sized pizzas were consumed by hungry Wheelers. Dee discussed our membership. Within the past month, 12 people have joined the Club and our membership is now up to 164. Dee mentioned our membership deal for new people or renewing members. If you sign up/renew this fall, you get the rest of 2017 and all of 2018 for $15/ person. Spud Thomas brought a number of birdhouses he made to the meeting to be given to members. Any new members attending this meeting were given a birdhouse for their yard. Thanks Spud for your beautiful birdhouses. Doug discussed two possible future rally ideas. In April next year, he talked about a trip to the Valencia area and attendance at a nearby Cowboy Music and Poetry Festival. Doug also discussed a 5-day trip in February to Las Vegas and Pahrump, NV with area tours included. One of the parks could be Oasis RV at the South end of Vegas. Interest was indicated for these trips. Doug also thanked people who have volunteered to support the LW Earthquake Awareness Program (which Doug is involved in). Frank Van Wickle, after singing “Henry the Eighth I Am”, discussed the LW Theatre Guild’s presentation of “The Magic Jukebox” (a rock and roll celebration) coming up on October 20, 21, and 22 at Clubhouse 3. Frank’s singing was enjoyed by all. Bob Poole (who does a great job on our website and directory) presented a discussion with photos and video on his and Dottie’s RV trip last summer. They toured the Northwest and then swung down south through California. The solar eclipse on August 21 was a focal point of the trip. They combine the eclipse location with tour points of interest (Idaho capital tour). The eclipse was viewed from a large parking lot north of Boise. It was like a big tailgating party. Bob showed various views of the eclipse, and how the crowd reacted. He described how the temperature dropped and the wind increased. When it was over, the large crowd and others in the area made the trip back to the RV park very slowly (5 hours). Doug then described he and Lorrie’s trip to Canada last summer. They went up I-15 to the Waterton Lake N.P. area to see the Canadian Rockies. However, it was a bad fire season and for 7-8 days they couldn’t see the mountains. They continued along and saw 4 Canadian N.P.’s, then went to Banff and back to the U.S. Doug commented that Canada RV parks are generally nice with big sites. However, gas was very expensive (about $5 for a US gallon). Members at this meeting gave their input on RVing in Canada. Rich Smith discussed the upcoming November rally he and Bonnie are hosting at Desert Hot Springs Sam’s Family Spa Hot Water Resort. The rally will start Monday 11/13 and run until Saturday 11/18. Rich described the park features, the nearness to Palm Springs, and other places to visit. Reservations must be to Rich no later than October 20. Dee discussed a number of topics. We need people to volunteer to host rallies in 2018. After April, there are a number of openings. Next month the Board will present a slate of officer candidates for 2018. It is time for members who want to attend the December Holiday Party to send in their reservations. Dee thanked those who attended meetings/sent notes to GRF Board members regarding the RV storage lots fee increase. The fee was set at $320 for next year. Lot B will have a card entry system installed next year. Lot A will probably have paving work done next summer. Dee asked members to call Security if they see any problems in the lots. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30pm. Respectfully submitted, Bruce Block, Secretary.
