The 13th Sabbath Mission Offering of this current quarter will be for implementing Inter European Division projects, and one of those projects is Etiquette, that is taking place in Romania. As it is supposed to be a child-friendly project, we have asked to Alina Chirileanu, who is in charge for CHM in Romania, to explain a little bit more about the project and help us to have a better idea of what it is about. We hope that this will allow collecting the funds needed to continue implementing this interesting idea for children, teachers and parents. Objective Transmitting Christian values and Adventist specific lifestyle for teachers and students in non-Adventist school settings. Goals Taking advantage of the opportunities to work in secular schools, to teach non Adventist students Christian values, how to live a healthy lifestyle, and to teach them how to choose a suitable career. Developing long-term friendships with teachers involved in the project, and using the opportunity to transmit our values to people that would be otherwise skeptical to participate in evangelism programs or other programs hosted by our churches. Description Throughout the school year, accredited and trained volunteers will offer different educative activities, such as seminars, PowerPoint presentations, video clips, documents and worksheets, symposiums, and forums, in public schools. The homeroom and extra-curricular requirements are a perfect occasion for such activities. The program will offer diverse possibilities, and topics such as: Manners and etiquette; How to choose a career; How to have a great relationship with your parents; How to live a healthy lifestyle; Ethics and morals; will be taught and debated. The ark of the covenant was different from Noah’s ark or the ark Moses floated in as a baby. It was a beautiful chest covered with gold that contained the stone tablets on which God had written the Ten Commandments. The ark rested beneath two carved winged figures called cherubim. When the temple was destroyed in 586 BC, the ark of the covenant disappeared. Some people think it may still be hidden in Jerusalem or elsewhere.

Project “Etiquette”

The program has two parts: the first part consists of holding regular meetings throughout the school year, and the second part is to organize and hold a one week summer camp for students who have been involved in the activities during the school year, and also for teachers and school staff who will supervise the stu-dents. The program is in constant collab-oration with school principals and home-room teachers. At the end of the year, five students from each class accompanied by a teacher will participate in a weeklong camp of teaching and special activities.During the camp, the students will par-ticipate in activities connected to path-finder and companion programs, while the teachers participate in team building activities and lifestyle seminars (ex. New Start, Creation and Health Findings).PurposeThere are groups of people that are not easily convinced to attend our church pro-grams. In some of the cases, it is even im-possible. However, if we are able to find a common ground, they can still learn about who we are and the truths that we cherish. One common ground is the “Etiquette” pro-gram. It offers us the possibility to meet on a weekly basis throughout the school year and at the end of it to meet for a whole week of camp, giving the whole team the opportunity to interact with these students

and teachers. The involvement in this program and the interaction leads to opportunities to invite them to participate in other programs.Students will be invited to participate in our Pathfinders, Companions or Ambassadors programs, and the teachers will be invited to participate in different trining courses organized by the Sola Scriptura team or to participate in Health Clubs, Cooking Clubs or Family and Relationship Clubs.Project basisIn pilot projects organized in two confer-ences, we invited an average of 20 stu-dents and four or five teachers, totaling for one year a number of 80 students and 22 teachers from the Muntenia Conference, and two groups of 35 students and 20 teachers from the Moldova Conference.Meanwhile, at the convention organized for non-Adventist teachers interested in participating in this project, 65 teachers were involved, along with four school principals, two school inspectors from the county and two anti-drug coordina-tors from the police headquarters in two counties.

Jesus wants all of me

Who cares?Who cares about those people? Who cares if he knows Jesus? Who cares if she hears the Word of God? Who cares if someone tells him about God’s love? Who cares if she finds God? Jesus cares. And so do I!

3Being connected

Out of the mouths of babes

Being connected: Stewardship

A little girl told her grand-mother, “I behaved very well in church today. I

even refused a big plate of money that the man

offered me.”

Taken from Mason P., “Out of the Mouths of Babes”, Mill Hill, London, 1999

Robert Fulghum has written a book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in the Kindergarten, containing many truths about what children can learn in kindergarten or at the Sabbath School. There are certain things about which people don’t get to learn either in primary & secondary school, college or university. Here are some fundamental things that children can be taught by Children’s Ministries in cooperation with Stewardship Ministries. These truths can offer a right philosophy regarding life.

1. It’s not mine.Look at a group of children playing quietly, surrounded by toys galore. Then a voice is heard, increasingly insisting, until the parents have to intervene: “It’s mine!” The ‘mine’ word is part of children’s vocabulary. And quite a few grown-ups continue to think and speak in terms of “mine” into old age. The first lesson that we can teach children is about God, the Creator, from Whom we receive everything and to Whom belongs everything. Thus children understand that they are little stewards and will grow with this understanding of reality.

2. Thank you Thank you is another word that parents want their kids to learn. Each Sabbath, they have the favor and the opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ to God, by means of their offerings. Let us encourage the parents, the educators and all those responsible with children’s formation to not miss this unique opportunity they have.

3. Money has value.Sooner or later children come to understand this fact, but there are few places where they can learn how to manage money and how to relate to it. The family and the church play an important role in this area. Our recommendation is that each child should have a personal piggy bank and thus be able to give offerings, to help other kids from poor families, and also to learn that the tithe belongs to God and that by giving the tithe, we affirm the Lordship of God. In this way, the children will have the opportunity to learn the most important lessons for life.

R. B. Zuck: Precious in His SightThough noumerous volumes have been written on human observations about children, very few volumes present God’s perspective on them as recorded in the Bible. This book fills this gap.Not only is this volume unique, it is also comprehensive. The author covers all the children in the Bible, intensively study-ing the biblical text as well as

A. Murphy: The Faith of a Child

How can we know if a child is ready to become a Chris-

tian? What must a child do to become a Christian?

What should we do when a very young child wants to

accept Christ as his Savior? Most parents, teachers, and

pastors wrestle with the prickly issue of children and salvation. The good news is that we don’t have to. God

wants us to be equipped and confident in doing our part to lead our children to a genu-ine relationship with Jesus Christ.Art Murphy masterfully teaches you how to give clear direc-tion to your children about how to go to heaven. You will receive straightforward, practical instruction on such topics as:• the stages of your child’s spiritual development• the signs that your child is ready to become a Christian• taking your child’s spiritual temperature• witnessing to a childGod wants parents to be the most influential shapers of their children’s spiritual life. Learn how to impact and nurture your child on his journey to a saving faith in Jesus Christ

incorporating insights from the best history works on child-hood and child-rearing in ancient times. (...)Everything the Bible says about children applies to contem-porary childhood, according to the author. He finds biblical examples and abundant implications for children’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual development. The principles that can be garnered from this incisive work will help educa-tors and parents in teaching and training of children today.

Each book points out the Good News of God’s love and forgiveness, while the supporting scripture verse emphasizes the point of each story.

L. Fowler: Raising a Modern-Day JosephImagine this scenario for a typical teenager in your church: He’s separat-ed from his family and sent to live in a hedonistic, no-holds-barred chulture. He’s stripped of his spiritual support, left alone, and treated unfairly. Then, at his most vulnerable point, his ego is stoked with power and success.

Throughout this roller-coaster ride, would he continue to serve God?This very test was given to the Old Testament Joseph, whose faith remained rock-solid. Yet it seems that our youth are ill-equipped to face the moral vacuum in today’s culture. Worse, research shows that when young people leave home, many also leave the church. So how can we forge sons and daughters of faith and fortitude? The vital answers are found in the story of Joseph. Drawing from this timeless narrative, the author offers a biblical plan for growing children who will love and serve Jesus Christ. Biblically based and up-to-the minute relevant, this book is an essential guide to raising a generation that can pass life’s tests with flying colors.
