NOVEMBER SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
In November our Sunday School kids will be learning about Solomon & the Temple, Elijah & the Widow, Queen Esther, and Daniel & the Lions. Thank you to Marilyn Frykman and Kathy Dahl for giving “one hour.” It’s not too early to sign up for giving “one hour” beginning in Janu-ary. There is a signup sheet on the kitchen serving counter. Thanks in advance for your help! November will be a busy month for Peace Sunday School: November 8th – We’ll be serving cake and coffee from 10:00 – 10:30 am in honor of those who have served our country. Please join us in hon-oring them. November 15th – Our Sunday School students will be going around town collecting items for our area food shelves. Let us know if we can stop by your house! November 29th – Practice for our Christmas Program will begin the last Sunday of November. As usual, it is imperative that all students attend all practices. Please let us know if your child can participate. Christmas Program practices will be held November 29th, December 6th, and December 13th, with the program being presented on Decem-ber 20th. There will be no Sunday School on December 27th and January 3rd. A blessed Thanksgiving to all! Joyce Hanson, Director Peace Sunday School 320-528-2354 (phone) [email protected] (email)

Peace Council Spotlight Page for November
A heart filled thank you to Joyce Hanson for
her dedication to the Vacation Bible School and
Sunday school programs. Joyce was at our
October council meeting and gave a
comprehensive summary on both of these
ministries. Available for the council at this time
was a transaction detail on the costs/funding of
the programs. Overall this program has been a
“very positive experience”. VBS attendance at
one point had 41 youth participating. Joyce
praised the volunteers and meal sponsors for
their contributions.
The Sunday school curriculum mirrors the
church calendar and the one hour teaching
volunteers have been successful. Average
attendance varies but the staff has had as many
as sixteen attending on any given Sunday. Sandy,
our Peace administrative assistant also supports
Joyce’s Sunday school program. Thank you sent
Sandy’s way for the extra time and effort.
************
Focus for November will be Food Shelf
donations and offerings.
**************
The approved September Church Council
meeting is included within the body of this
newsletter. Direct any questions you may have
to your council members.
Remember the council is your voice.
**************
The council was informed of a recent purchase
by the Altar Guild of a Funeral Pall to be used
at the time of our funeral and memorial worship
services.
Since this is a new addition/symbol to our wor-
ship service the council felt information should
be presented on the use of a funeral pall.
A Pall is a noun and is defined “as a cloth spread
over a coffin, hearse, or tomb”.
Palls have been used for centuries in the Chris-
tian church. In early times, they were typically
black in color to signify death and mourning.
Today in modern times, palls are usually white
and resonate with the promise that all who are
baptized into Christ have “clothed themselves”
with Christ and that all who are buried with
Christ in baptism will be raised with him in new-
ness of life. Palls are often adorned with sym-
bols that focus on Christ and on the resurrec-
tion. A pall reflects a symbol of faith and bap-
tism to remind mourners that all are equal in the
eyes of God no matter the minimalism or ex-
travagance of the casket or vessel.
The funeral pall is available here at Peace for all
funeral worship services. Pastor and the Altar
Guild will assist you with any questions regard-
ing the Pall you may have in your time of fami-
ly bereavement.

allow 15 passenger vans. Had to use drivers. Kids did very well. Activity at Winnipeg Harvest did not involve repair of de-
struction. Food shelf serves all of Manitoba. Every year our hosts say that our youth are the hardest workers. After return-
ing from Canada the group painted Barrett Inn. Got both positive and negative feedback. After the project was complete
the positive compliments over shadowed the negative. Detroit trip for those in it for the right reasons impacted those youth
well. Discussed behavior issues. Felt all youth got something out of their experience. All youth invested financially and this
was the first time there were no scholarships for expenses. Discussed transparency of fundraising, goals and parental in-
volvement. Discussed planning of future youth events. They have had no time for youth to speak about the trip due to
VBS, Pastoral Vacation, Immanuel Service. Barrett Relief will be contributing to the youth program. Detroit was an amaz-
ing experience. Pastor has had a busy week with wedding and funeral and two members very ill.

Thank you to Peace WELCA for contacting the City of Barrett about volunteering to take care of the flower bed by the Powers Park Playground and Picnic sign (along county road 2) and for carrying through on the permission granted. Special thanks to Bea DeFrance for donating, planting, weeding, and watering the flowers. Barrett was truly beautified this summer.
If you are unable to be a helper on your Sunday, please call one of your work group leaders and he or she will help you find a replacement. Thank you

Stewardship of the Good News
To the Saints of Peace Lutheran…
This will be my final newsletter article. My family and I
have mixed feelings about our departure. We’re both
excited for the new opportunities God has in store for
us, but also saddened to leave so many good friends. I
feel incredibly blessed to have served among you
these past seven years and to have experienced
firsthand your love and support as well as work with
you shoulder to shoulder in the name of God. I know
that God will continue to bless this community through
your service to others.
I remember the nerves I had as I was graduating
Seminary, knowing that this town of Barrett would
become my new “home.” I’d lived in Herman for a
couple of years at that point, so I was slightly familiar
with the area, but still this was something totally new.
I’d been going to school straight for nine years (after
high school!) and leaving the familiarity of academics
was a bit frightening, even though at the same time it
was incredibly exciting to finally be entering into the
ministry God was calling me to. When I got here for
that first weekday of being “Pastor Matthew” I
remember the first realization that I was, even with all
of my schooling, woefully unprepared for the wonders
God was calling me to here. And yet, comfortable,
having already experienced the love of the people
here at Peace, that with you I would be able to
participate in great things in God’s name. Together we
have just done just that, in a variety of wondrous ways
in times of joy and in some very difficult times.
As a congregation, you have been there for us
whenever we’ve needed you. Through you, God has
provided us not only food, housing, and a living but
also family when we needed family. You were there
for the births of Henry, Isaac, and Charlie, and gave
Chloe the surrogate
sisters she needed
when the “brothers”
were just too much!
When we needed it
you’ve come through
with your words of
encouragement and prayers. You cannot fathom the
gratitude we have for your support, love, and respect
you have continually shown us. As excited as I am to
start the next chapter of my life at Hope Lutheran
Church in Fergus Falls, I trust you will treat whoever
God is calling to walk with you in the next chapter of
Peace Lutheran’s story with the same love you have
showered on me, and give them the space they will
need to lead you where God is calling. Just as you can
trust that God, through the people of Hope, will do the
same for me.
In the last few days several people have visited with
me, and wished me well. Thank you. I am eager to
see what God has in store for the Rose “clan”. Peace
Lutheran will always have a special place in my
memory and as a pastor, I could not have asked for a
better congregation to be my first call. I know that I
have grown tremendously in the past nearly seven
years, and I think that I can say that – with the help of
the Holy Spirit – so has Peace.
I know that God hears and answers your prayers,
therefore remember us as we begin this new adven-
ture at Hope Lutheran. Although I will be intentionally
stepping back from the congregation to give you time
to find and fall in love with your new pastor, rest as-
sured I will be holding each of you in prayer as well.
Thank you so much for being such an important part of
our lives.
God’s Blessings to you now and always,
~Pr. Matthew
