Central Valley Re-placement Levy on February 2012 Ballot

Central Valley School District vot-ers will be asked to approve a three-year School Programs and Opera-tions Replacement Levy on the Feb-ruary 14 ballot. The proposed levy renews and replaces the district’s current levy, which expires in De-cember 2012. It is not a new tax.

Essential educational programs and activities not funded by state and federal dollars are maintained through the local levy. Voter ap-proval of the current three-year levy provides almost one quarter (22%) of the district’s day-to-day operating budget. Most educational programs in Central Valley schools are supported by levy funding such as technology for classroom in-struction, maintaining class sizes, programs for struggling and ad-vanced students, textbooks and teaching materials and special edu-cation programs. The levy also pays for extra- and co-curricular activi-ties such as athletics, music, drama and debate.

Want To Help Kids?

Come and join us as we celebrate our heroes who served our nation. We honor all who are currently serving or who

have served in the past. View our wall of thanks, where each child has created a brick with words of thanks or encour-

agement. You will also surely enjoy seeing our display cases full of memorabilia from our service people. During the

assembly the children will be singing patriotic songs. Veterans in attendance of course will be honored and all are wel-

come to attend in their uniforms. It is not too late to plan on joining us or to invite a service member to be with us on

this important day.

Our School Counselor, Mrs. Scott, is putting together a team of volunteers to work

with 4th Grade students each week to improve reading skills. If you or someone you

know would be interested in spending some time each week working with students.

We had an amazing Fall Festival and it’s FUN to try new things! The overwhelming response to the different

activities the PTO brought to this year’s Family Fun Night in October was extremely positive. We enjoyed

watching the children find so much enjoyment moving from one activity to another. Thank you to the many

volunteers, we couldn’t do it without you!

Conferences, Time well spent...

Parent-Teacher Conferences are an important time for you to find out valuable

information about your children, learn more about the academic and social focuses which affect them, and to share

the concerns and desires you have regarding your children. Teachers have important information they need to cover

during the conferences and things they wish to share, but the expectation is that the conference is interactive.

Teachers appreciate hearing about the things important to you and they need valuable insights about your children

from you. Here are some things to keep in mind:

Relax. Teachers want the conference to go well, just as you do. You both share the same goal: your

child’s success.

Commit to being there on time. There will probably be a conference scheduled right after yours.

Bring your spouse, if possible. The value of this is in showing your child how important their

schooling is.

Prepare for the conference by writing some notes, or questions. These might include:

Information about your child the teacher should know

Questions about your child’s progress

How you and the teacher can improve communication

How does your child get along with others

Be sure to ask the teacher for specific suggestions on ways to help your child

do better at school. If needed, ask to schedule a follow-up meeting.

Attendance Line:

If your student will be late, please

call before 9:30 to confirm if he/

she will be taking hot lunch, we

never want to run short!

To the Book Fair and Beyond!

The amount of time kids spend reading is one of the largest indicators of school success.

So what is your plan to get a book in their hand? Maybe we can help… Come to the book

fair! We will be having an exciting book fair in the McDonald Corral (Activity Room).

You may want to come and see some great new titles for your child. What better way to

reward their effort at school then with a book. Also with Christmas coming up a book is

another great idea for a gift. Keep reading!
