choice

We hope you liked the first edition of NovaNews!

Already at the beginning of 2010, we decided to book a stand on the IFFA exhibi-tion in Frankfurt.

IFFA is the leading international trade fair for processing, packaging and sales in the meat industry. It has been the international platform for the meat-processing industry since 1949.

Thanks to the great depth and breadth of the range of products on show, as well as the large number of international exhibitors and visitors, IFFA gives a demon-stration of its position in the sector every three years. The exhibition spans over six days from Saturday morning through Thursday evening.

In 2013, 60,000 trade visitors from around 142 countries came to Frankfurt to see the range of products and services offered by 960 exhibitors. The proportion of trade visitors from outside Germany rose significantly compared to the last event three years ago, to 61 percent.

We had planned the exhibition in detail, made staff plans that included both our Polish and Spanish colleagues, all in order to send a signal of Novadan being the international company, we are. Among other things, we had brochures and sales material of up to 8 languages . We were exhibiting in a hall were two of our good partners: Lagafors and Vikan also had stands. Thereby we soon created syner-gies where we recommended our visitors to visit each other’s stands, if relevant.

At our stand some really interesting guests came to visit - from Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Norway, Latvia and Spain - we knew some of them already. But all in all, we were visited by potential new partners and customers from approx. 20 different countries from Minnesota in the United States, Australia, Russia, Mexico, Venezuela, Morocco, Iceland and South Africa just to name some of them.

We are now following up on the contacts we have got at the fair, and we are eva-luating whether we should return in 3 years. We think we had some good days, but it was also a long-lasting exhibition that spanned over both a weekend and Ascension Day (which is an international holiday). Unfortunately we experienced a bit quiet Sunday and the same on Ascension Day.

PERFECT ALKA is used for cleaning of milking pipelines, cooling tanks and the like.

When cleaning the milking unit, Jens uses F60+ and Perfect Alka.

The bacterial count reflects the number of bacteria in the milk. This number says something about the milking hygiene on the farm – but also something about how the milk has been stored.

GOOD SPARRING PARTNER So altogether, the switch to Novadan’s products has been very satisfying for Jens Jacobsen. But Jens is not only satisfied with the products.

For Jens Jacobsen, the collaboration with Lind’s consultant: Jacob Gottschalk has been a positive experience because he has made himself acquainted with Jens’ situation and been supportive. Good guidance and a good sparring partner is an important part of the collaboration, and it means something, when the Linds consultant makes an extra effort.

UDDER HEALTH Jens Jacobsen who lives in the Danish town Outrup focuses a lot on udder health. Previously, udder health and udder inflammation caused Jens many problems and thereby much annoyance.

Jens is very aware that a high cell count is an indication that a cow is infected and can infect other cows. Furthermore, cows with an increased cell count cause decrease in performance. So it is profitable to focus on udder health, because it definitely can affect the bottom line.

NEW SUPPLIERA colleague encouraged Jens Jacobsen to use Nova-dan products and in collaboration with the LINDS consultant, Jakob Gottschalk, udder health was controlled. Actually, the frequency of udder inflam-mation has been low since then. And that pleases Jens Jacobsen:”A milk producer advised me to use Viri Foam, and that has prevented udder inflammation and thereby also saved both time and money”. Viri Foam is a foam agent which is used right before milking.

On average, the cell count is 180,000. In September, it was 123,000, and in the winter, it is often approx 100,000.

Jens tells that the time consumption maybe has increased by 5 minutes when Viri Foam is used for teat wash, but that does not make much dif-ference, when it is much easier to wipe off the teats with a damp cloth subsequently.

AFTER MILKING Jens Jacobsen has also used Novadan’s products after milking: ”A month and a half ago, I started using Viri Te Spray and since then, I have not treated a cow for udder inflammation!”

Viri Te Spray is a teat spray ready to use right after milking.

Jens Jacobsen has approx. 100 cows of the breed Dansk Holstein in a conventional barn. In the summer, the cows are grazing and are therefore in different stalls which results in a little mess, but still there are no bac-teria problems..... and the performance is also good. Actually, it is 10,300 EKM milk.

BACTERIAL COUNT! Also in connection with cleaning of the milking unit, Jens Jacobsen uses Novadan’s products.

Previously, Jens had problems with milk deposits in the tank, but after he switched to Perfekt Alka, there are no more yellow deposits in the tank. And that is not all – the bacterial count is at an impressing 3,000!

Reduced risk of udder inflammation SAVES TIME AND MONEY!

SUCCESSFUL COOPERATION BETWEEN LOCAL DEALER AND NOVADAN

”Thank you very much for your support and a great job on UF for WPC80 in Utenos dairy (Rokiskio group)”.

Our Novadan partner: Linchema has recently enjoyed high appreciation from their customer: Rokiskio Group who has named an involved emplo-yee: Darius “A membrane cleaning GURU”! The plant installers, GEA, which initially had their priority on competitor products, were convinced and proved that Novadan products are high quality products and also - which is very important for the customer - price competitive. Poul from Novadan and Darius have successfully adjusted the cleaning program to changed plant capacity, variation in the feed and final products. And not forgetting, one year ago, a similar job were done within the cheese area with concentrating UF, NF, RO, RO-P plants in Rokiskio suris. The task was to switch 8 plants from competitor products to Novadan products and replace really tough cleaning products with only 3 chemical products while staying price attractive.

Being named ”A Guru” makes us proud. As a result of this successful job, Darius has been highly recommended to two other new dairy customers with membrane plants. I hope, we will use this opportunity to become a firm leader in cleaning of the membrane plants in Lithuanian dairies.

Peracetic Acid

Several production companies within the food industry have become

aware of the advantages of using disinfectants based on peracetic acid. Peracetic acid is a disinfectant which is effective against bacteria, virus, yeast and mould.

The advantages for the food producers using peracetic acid are obvious:• An environmental green profile as

the ingredients are disintegrated to water, oxygen and acetic salts - all substances which do not have a negative effect on the environ-ment.

• Peracetic acid is used cold for CIP systems as well as surface disinfec-tion which results in savings time and money-wise.

Complete product range

Through time, Novadan has with great success changed the soluti-

ons from conventional disinfection to peracetic acid disinfection with the associated savings and environmen-tal advantages which the customers appreciate. At the same time, there is a great effect on the bacteriological results and the production department can consequently use its resources optimally by focusing on production.

In our first edition of NovaNews we wrote that we were building an extention to the current end product warehouse.

The new building includes a 1560 m2 warehouse, which will be stock and a pick and pack warehouse, as well as picking area for smaller packages is now so far in its’ building progress that we held a topping-out ceremony on June 13. See pictures below.

Novadan offers a complete product range in peracetic acid products from CIP products with or without conductivity, to a specially developed product with light foam for surface disinfection which in addition is very effective against yeast, fungi and listeria.

Conventional disinfection

Sodium hypochlorite has been and still is a very used disinfectant due to the price as well as a wide bacteriological effect. However, sodium hypochlorite

does have some disadvantages as regards the degradability in the recipient and aggressiveness towards different types of equipment.

Other types of disinfection methods are alcohol based, quaternary ammonium compounts (QAC) and heating/sterilization - all with more or less good proper-ties and effects.

QAC are unwanted in many dairies because they can have a negative effect on the acidification process when used incorrectly, and also have a bad environ-mental profile.

Steam and hot water sterilization are effective if the right temperatur is reac-hed but implies large energy costs, and often the costs for repairs and mainte-nance are increased substantially because the material is effected by frequent heating and subsequent cooling.

Nordic Dairy Congress in Norway

Lofoten, Norway

This year, Novadan had decided to participate, with a small stand at the Nordic Dairy Congress held in Lofoten in northern Norway in the town of Svolvær. Lofoten is a large Norwegian archipelago, which west of Narvik stretches a few hundred kilometers in the Norwegian Sea. The nature is impressive and fascinating with its beautiful fjords and steep cliffs, and spiced up with a great richness it is hard to describe, but should be experienced.

The Nordic Dairy Congress is held every third year and this was no. 43 in the series which was held from June 6 to 8. The Con-gress brings together a number of people within and related to the dairy industry from Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, and this year there were 240 participants.

by Gert Kristensen, Export Manager

The main theme of this year’s congress was: Nordic Dairy Industry - Future Perspective. The theme for Friday, June 7 was ”Responsible Food” and Saturday, June 8 ”Future Products and Possibilities”, both days with a variety of obser- vations from speakers from Tine, Arla (Denmark and Sweden), Valio and Mjólkur samsalan (Iceland), as well as researchers and professors from universities and research institutes.

Novadan and our partner ACO Gruppen had a small stand where we had chosen to focus on the theme Disinfection.

Since there was no actual exhibition hall we were assigned a stand in the hotel lobby, along with the other exhibitors who were: Tetra Pak, Elopak, Gea, SPX and ÅH. None of our competitors (Ecolab or Lilleborg) were exhibiting.

In June, Novadan/ACO Gruppen got an agreement with Tine Storsteiness and started testing the membrane plant at Tine Sømna on June, 11. This has been noticed by several other large dairies, and we had some interesting conversations, especially 2 are really interesting. Consequently, we think and hope that the relatively small cost of the fair may turn out to be a really good investment. Innovators in Cleaning Pms: 281 c (blå)
