CASA NO.V.A.
CASA NO.V.A.
The N.O.V.A. project seeks alternatives to answer contemporary challenges concerning sustainability, flexibility and adaptation of architecture. The aim was not to forge concepts for a theoretical future: we sought to abandon the paradigm of futuristic ideas that never turn into reality and focused on concrete possibilities of evolution.Society expressed its concerns through a crowdsourcing platform, where people from every horizon shared opinions. Common folk and specialists were consulted and our project team used the results as a base for the project. The plot is in a park in Niteroi, part of Rio’s metropolis. It is inserted in a larger project of rehabilitation and seeks to engage the community by developing proposals for a better life through an experimental project. The placement aimed to preserve the trees

Flows and connectionsThe blue line corresponds to a high speed road, there´s no pedestrian circulation. The green line correspond to a local street
Ocupation UseThe neighbourhood has a profile of comercial and residencial uses.
Proposal accessThere are two kinds of access. The red arrow indicates private access leading to the residential part. The access indicated by the green arrow allows public access to the park facilities and cafeteria
Proposed blocks and usagesThe bigger block corresponds to the house/private. And the smaller one represents the cafeteria.

and exploits the site’s potential by focusing on passive energy solutions such as cross ventilation, vital for a tropical climate. The accesses are part of vast urban paths as the park, the house and a small café, are porous to the city. The wooden structure is based on 2.40 meters modules that allow employing pre-fabricated elements. Different living pods will be shared by permanent families and tourists via AirBNB, organized around collective spaces. Sustainability is ubiquitous and the house is both in symbiosis with its surroundings and creates an autonomous energy producing ecosystem. The N.O.V.A. project seeks more than establishing new paradigms: its objective is to enhance relations that transform architecture into a subject of research that congregates sustainability, behavior and interaction.
