GeneralMeeting
March 27, 2019
Cal-Trans Building
Doors open at 6:00
Meeting begins at 6.30
Well, that’s a wrap! The Quilt show was a great success and I am already looking forward to next year. Thank you to all who partici-pated in one way or another.
It is the time of year when we start
looking for our next years team of Officers and Chairs. We need you. Billie Lindgren has a com-mittee of people working with her to start talking to the membership about taking a active roll next year. Start thinking about how you can
help. Best thing I have done!
Can’t wait to see what you guys are working on, post to the Face-book page and Happy Spring.
Keep sewing!
JW
Heart and Home 2019 Quilt Show THANK YOU! VALLEY QUILT
GUILD … YOU’RE AMAZING!
It really takes a whole lot of people
to pull off a quilt show, and I am
grateful to all of you, whether I
was able to say thank you in per-
son or not! I appreciate the efforts
of both long-time members and
new members (and in between)
who all jumped in to make the
show a success. I can now stop
waking up at 3 am worrying that
no one will come. Thank you for
hugging me when I needed a hug,
thank you for helping spread the
word through social media (as well
as the old-fashioned way), thank
you for hours of work, and thank
you for the smile on my face as I
left the fairgrounds late Sunday….
I will share information about the
show, share the exit survey results,
and the viewers choice award win-
ners at the March meeting, but the
bottom line is that the show was a
success and you helped make that
happen!
Soooo …. There are some com-
mittee openings for next year’s
show and I’m sure next year’s
chairperson (Jennifer Walton)
would love some help. Be thinking
about if you might be willing to
chair or be on a committee next
year. And …. Is there someone out
there that might like to chair the
whole thing in 2021? Please let us
know!
Colleen
Fat Chance As Spring is slowly approaching, so do the Leprechauns and Sham-rocks, plus four-leaf clovers. With them in mind, let’s celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with fabric in shades of green, gold, and black.
So rummage through your stash and help us fill 3 or 4 more baskets and make several members happy.
Many thanks to all of those la-dies who participate. Without your support we would not be so successful.
Good Luck! Alyce Kauffman and Dorothy Lindsay

Thank you White Glove Volunteers! I am excited that over half of the volunteers to white glove at the show were new members. Thank you to all for working at the show and helping to keep dirty hands off of our quilts. Just so you can see the names of new members that helped with this part of the show, I'm writing their name in bold.
Please help them to feel welcome by noticing their names and thank-ing them individually and in per-son.
White Glove Ladies on Saturday: Michelle Jones, Theresa Mihalyi, Kathy Sexton, Shirley Mills, Thea Norum, Barbara Buehrle, June Muncy, Loretta Burke, Wanda Collins, Janelle Willis
White Glove Ladies on Sunday: Nancy Albrecht, Elizabeth Hein-berger, Michelle Jones, Sandy Parker, Millie Berryhill, Bev Cook, Joan Sampson, Pat Smith, Ruenell Givans.
Diane Leighton
P.S. Thanks to all who helped iron the wind-socks!

Programs and Speakers If you missed our February speak-er, you missed out. I’ve never had as many positive comments after a speaker than I did for her. Both her lecture and her class were de-lightful.
Our March meeting will be a quilt show wrap up as well as a member showcase presentation. A big thank you to Melissa Milligan, De-laina Watson, and Heather Cham-bers for volunteering to share a few of their quilts and stories with us. The Saturday after our meeting will be a free sew day at the Rideout Conference Center from 10 am to 4 pm. You are encour-aged to work on community ser-vice, but can bring whatever you like to sew on. (April is a UFO sew day! It can still be community ser-vice … but there might be prizes for UFO progress!) New members – sew days are free, and all are welcome! If you need more infor-mation, please ask Eileen or Colleen!
The rundown:
March 30: Community Service Sew Day (Rideout Conference Center 10 am to 4 pm) April 24: Lecture by Kim Brownell – Wackydoodle Trunk Show April 27: UFO SEW Day (Rideout Conference Center 10 am to 4 pm) May 29: Lecture by Jenny Lyon – Quilting is a contact sport June 1: Jenny Lyon Workshop – Yes you can Free Motion Quilt (Friday Night Live Building). Eileen has a sample and will be taking signups at the March meeting. If you want to become a better quilter on your home machine, take this class! June 26: Lecture by Marjan Kluepfel – Creative Expression July 31: Lecture by Sarah Goer – My Quilting Journey Trunk Show August 1: (Thursday Workshop) – All About Angles (Friday Night Live Building) August 23 – 24: Linda Ballard class August 28: Ice Cream Social September 25: Trunk Show by Col-leen Granger – “A Bodacious Trunk Show”
September 28: Workshop – “Rings of Change”
* Please be ready to pay the class fee when you sign up. If you end up not being able to participate, there isn’t a refund, but you can try to find someone to take your spot.
Please feel free to contact us if you have ideas for programs or speak-ers or classes, or if you have questions.

Board Meeting Minutes
VALLEY QUILT GUILD BOARD MEETING
March 11, 2019
Members present: Janell Willis, Colleen Pelfrey, Eileen Milligan, Diane Leighton, Diana Craddock, Gloria Ad-ams, Sharon Easter, Billie Lindgren, Delaina Watson, Carleen Hagen
Call to order: A meeting of the Valley Quilt Guild Board was held at 445 B Street in Yuba City on March 11, 2019. It was called to order by President Janell Willis at 4:05 p.m.
Secretary:
Minutes: Minutes were reviewed from the last meeting. The motion was made and seconded (Colleen P/Carleen H) to approve the minutes as written. A unanimous approval followed.
Correspondence: A thank you was sent by a person who received one of our quilts from the Cancer Center. It burned in the Paradise Fire, so we got another quilt to them.
Treasurer: Checking balance as of March 1, 2019 is $2,476.08. Savings balance as of March 1, 2019 is $19,075.26.
Vice President: Speaker slots are filled through June. Look for further details in the newsletter.
Unfinished business: Quilt show wrap up for the board per Colleen: There were two concerns mentioned repeatedly in the exit surveys. One was that the sound system was difficult to hear and understand in the back half of the hall, and the other was that viewers would like to have the categories that quilts were judged in posted on the judged quilts. It was suggested that we could possibly recruit a youth group to help with cleanup after the show next year. Layout near front of building (rows front to back) was really liked.
New business:
Nominating committee: Billie was selected by Janell to head the committee. Billie will recruit 2 members for the committee.
Committee reports:
Webmaster; Nikki Snyder has resigned due to a heavy workload at work, effective March first. We are looking for a replacement. Opportunity quilts: Quilt #1 (made by Eileen) was won by Kathy Mackey. Quilt #2 (made by Colleen) was won by Gloria Barreria, one of the employees from Stephens’ Farmhouse. Our new opportunity quilt will be displayed at the April meeting.
Block of the Month: It is in progress and will be up to date by date of the meeting this month. There is very good participation.

Board Meeting Minutes
Minutes continued. . . . .
Membership: No report. There were several new members at the show.
March meeting: We will have the opportunity quilt from the Paradise Ridge Quilters Guild. Be sure to buy tickets to help their guild recover from the Camp Fire. As well as a full report on the quilt show, we will be having our Members’ Showcase. See more information elsewhere in the newsletter.
Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned by President Janell Willis at 5:34 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Gloria Adams, with help from Sharon Easter
Community Service
In February, we received a big do-nation of fabric and other sewing supplies (some of which we were unable to use, but Sharon Easter helped us find good homes for that which was unusable to Community Service). Thank you to Wanda Horn, Carolyn McCray, Helen Sousa and Barb Gilmore for assisting in the sorting process.
At the February meeting, the fol-lowing members contributed to Community Service:
Gail Campbell, Millie Berryhill, Barb Gilmore, Billie Lingren, Kathy Sex-ton, Barbara Buehrle, Melanee
Vieira, Valerie Ron, Vera Smith, Elaine Rice, Jan Milbourne, Evon Smith, Loretta Burke, Michelle Jones, Jessica Carlson, Lucy Prall, Mary Marusin, Delaina Watson, Janet Craver, Cathy Klaker
The Community Service booth at the Quilt Show was a huge success in demonstrating to the public what we do and how we do it. Evon Smith, Gail Campbell, Sharon Easter and June Muncy were the star teachers and encouraged visi-tors to choose squares and create blocks. As always, Wanda Horn and Carolyn McCray were indispensa-
ble in setting up and tearing down for the space. Others came and helped to educate the public and sew at times but they shall remain nameless for not signing the "book of volunteers". Thanks to every-one who made our booth a success!!

Helpful Hints from Alyce
To remove ball point ink marks from fabric,
spray lightly with hair spray. Gently rub the
area until ink stain is gone. Repeat if
necessary until ink spot disappears.
Grease marks or stains on a quilt or fabric?
Shampoo for oily hair will often remove the
stain.
Use clean pizza boxes for storing 12-1/2”
blocks or pieces of fabric.
When marking dark fabric, try using a silver
pencil.
When finished crayon coloring on fabric, place
a piece of waxed paper on top and press with a
hot dry iron. This will help set the colors made
by the crayons. Leave the waxed paper on project
until it is cool before removing.
