When attending our offices please bring two types of proof of ID one being a photo ID such as passport or UK photo driving licence with counterpart and one other type of proof of address such as a recent utility bill or bank statement.
Regarding fees, by way of example only, the certification of one signature on a document without a separate certificate is normally £85-£90 plus VAT. Where a notarial certificate is prepared and separately attached the feeis normally about £125 plus VAT. Where there are multiple signatures and certificates and/or you request the notary to process the legalisation the price will rise accordingly in line with my hourly charge out rate of £217 per hour plus VAT.
Academic Qualifications
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office charge is £30.00 per document for legalisation. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office operate a separate same day service but this is much more expensive at £75 per document plus agent’s fees. How much quicker this is depends on what methods are used to send the documents to London and at what time of day they arrive. Please call for further details if you want to consider this Premium service.

By way of background, Notaries are qualified legal professionals who are authorised to practise notarial work pursuant to Statutory Regulations. They are impartial and legally trained specialists in document verification who are frequently required to authenticate and/or certify the execution of documents required or intended for use outside the UK.
A notary’s international standing means that his signature and seal are recognised internationally as evidence of a responsible legal officer. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office will verify an English Notary where appropriate.

My normal practice is to verify the certificates with the institutions for which I will need to meet you, check your ID and obtain your authorisation.
My fee for confirming your identity, considering the document, confirming your understanding, verifying the document with the relevant institutions and endorsing my certificates will depend on the process of the institutions in question and subject to seeing the documents and the formal requirements. The academic institution may make a charge for provision of the verification.
In addition please note that I can normally only certify academic awards where they are UK institutions and ‘accredited’ according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s own criteria. In relation to non-accredited and foreign bodies there is no guarantee that I will be able to process the documents and will depend on the circumstances of each case. Fees will be adjusted accordingly.

As with any third party postal or courier service there is no guarantee of delivery and although the services mentioned have the benefit of some compensation this is fairly nominal and if you require higher levels then you will need to specify this prior to instruction and postage.

Rothera Sharp uses a tracked mail system where possible or Royal Mail in the alternative.
Where documents are being sent abroad at your option you can ask us to quote to arrange door to door courier service for an additional fee plus the courier charge.
