Apprenticeship policy is changing and the Government is placing renewed emphasis on Apprenticeships as a key factor in the development of the workforce right across the UK. Organisations will face apprenticeship targets as an integral part of workforce development and new entrant recruitment. Are you ready for this?

As of April 2017 all UK employers in both the private and public sector employers with annual pay bills of more than £3million a year will not only have to pay the levy but importantly will be able to access funding support for training apprentices. Are you equipped to take advantage of this?

We think it is very important that organisations begin preparations for these changes. For many employers this will mean they may need to reorganise their apprenticeship strategy / delivery.

How we can help you

Skills for Justice in partnership with our National Skills Academy can offer you the following support, information, advice and guidance to ensure you don’t miss out on critical funding:

Strategy and preparation

3Understanding the levy and making the most of the new funding system and maximising your return

Apprenticeship TrailblazersNew Apprenticeship Standards are being developed in England which will, ultimately, replace the current frameworks.

An independent review of Apprenticeships by Doug Richard in 2012 sought to develop a world class Apprenticeship system in England, offering young people a real alternative to University, and employers a ‘job ready’ pipeline of workers. The final report resulted in a series of recommendations designed to make Apprenticeships more rigorous and more responsive; notably putting you, the employers, in control.

A series of groups, known as ‘Trailblazers,’ have been set up to develop the new standards. Trailblazers also develop the Assessment Plans.

Employers lead the activity, consulting with their sector as required before submitting the final products to Department for Education. A panel at Department for Education reviews and/or approves the submission before allowing the group to proceed to the next phase.

Some trailblazers choose to develop additional resources and employer briefs for use during implementation. Skills for Justice can facilitate these in partnership with sector employers. We can help employers navigate their way through the development of Apprenticeship Standards and Assessment Plans, reducing the burden on the employers and ensuring momentum and enthusiasm is maintained.

Guidance for the process is supplied by the Department for Education who are shaping the Government Policy on Apprenticeships as the Trailblazers progress.
