says the training was imperative for bothgroups. “The IT team was interested in howthe system worked, while the police wereocused on learning how to view a camera,

look at recorded video and use alarms.”

The initial Endura system at Northwestern was compromised of fewer than 30 cameras,one Network Video Recorder (NVR), asystem manager, one workstation and acouple of Video Console Displays (VCDs).But as Silverman came to understand

as approximate y 130 cameras, sevenNVRs, ve VCDs, and several Pelco plasmamonitors. “Endura has worked awlesslyfor us,” Silverman explains.

“The fact that we make use of theUniversity’s backbone and IT infrastructure

as pretty muc a owe us to put camerasor a series of monitors anywhere,” saysSi verman. “T e En ura pro uct a ows usto continually expand, continually look atnew products that become available andinsert them as needed,” Silverman says.“That’s a huge benet for us, and a costsavings as well.” Today the system is used

to secure buildings at both the Evanstonand Chicago campuses, residential halls,and the football stadium. “As new

ui ings are constructe , En ura isexible enough for us to pretty muchput a camera anywhere it is needed.That’s a huge benet.”

In addition to Endura, Northwestern hasa so c osen Pe co to provi e t eir imagingand display solutions. “We utilize essentially

the entire Pelco product line from Spectra V, to Spectra Mini, to Camclosure IP. Prettymuch everything Pelco has to o er, we try tonclude.” Silverman is particularly impressed

with the performance of Pelco NetworkCameras. “The fact that Pelco IP camerasare Endura Enabled allows us to put themright onto the network and power them

ver our Ethernet switches, which savesn labor cost. It’s a great t for us.”

Pelco has worked closely with Northwesternn the ve years since the Endura system

was rst installed. “The beauty of Pelco’sustomer support is the fact that we canea irect y wit system engineers an

get product support anytime we need it,ay or night. That, as far as we areoncerned, is key to our success,”

says Silverman.
