There have been some big things happening already this year for the upcoming 2020 season and the intent of this newsletter is to share those with you as they progress, so you feel you are “in the loop” at all times. o This was a huge success thank you to the wonderful teamwork from Jill and Todd Tiell, along with Bridget and Jeff Kwiatkowski! This would not have happened without you and we are so thankful for your dedication and commitment to making this event happen!

o We had over 30 attendees and raised over $1,600 for our program. o The money raised will be used to cover our summer league costs and our summer tournament, along with purchasing two (2) new

Pre-Season Parent and Athlete Meeting We are looking forward to seeing all of you on Monday, April 13, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. in the Northview Cafeteria for the 2020 Pre-Season Athlete and Parents Meeting where we will officially kick off the 2020 season. This meeting will last about 30-45 minutes. Please share this information with anybody that might be interested in playing volleyball in 2020 at Northview. Remember, if you are a new athlete to the program, or if you have updated information for our database (new phone number, new address, etc. from years past), you will need to fill out completely and bring the Athlete and Parents Information sheet that can be accessed online. The information provided on this document will allow us to make sure that we are communicating with you efficiently. Staff Changes for the 2020 Season This year, we are excited to announce some coaching changes within the Northview staff. For the 2020 season, Coach Heidi Wiczynski will resume the role of Head Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach. This comes as Coach Kayla Brown will be taking a leave as her and her husband welcome their first baby boy in the upcoming weeks. Coach Kayla will continue to be around the Northview program and in the gym throughout the season. Coach Heidi has put together a very impressive resume in her first two years leading the freshman program and we are delighted that she has agreed to take on this new role as the Head Junior Varsity Coach. The new additions to our coaching staff include Abbey Pawlak ’15, as a Volunteer Varsity Assistant, and Sara Turner-Smith, Freshman Head Volleyball Coach. Abbey was a phenomenal libero at Northview during the 2011 – 2014 seasons, before playing four years at the University of Akron. She is currently teaching at Stranahan Elementary. Sara Turner-Smith was a standout outside hitter for Coach Chad Rutkowski at Cardinal Stritch before playing for Owens Community College. Sara will graduate from BGSU in May with her Masters Degree in Nutrition and will be a Registered Dietician.

Summer Volleyball Camps at Northview Leading up to the season, we traditionally host a Summer Camp here at Northview for all athletes. This year’s camp will take place July 29, 30, and 31, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. to 2:15 P.M. for high school students (9th – 12th graders based on their grade in the fall of 2020) and 2:15 P.M. to 4:15 P.M. for junior high students (5th – 8th graders based on their grade in the fall of 2020) and will consist of outside coaches who will prepare our athletes for the upcoming season with sound technique, competition and team building. We host this camp in addition to our ten (10) permitted coaching days that we are allotted throughout the summer. This camp will truly prepare us for a great start to the season. o Open Gyms will typically run Monday’s through Thursday’s throughout June and July. • June 26, 2020 – July 5, 2020 – There will be no volleyball! Enjoy your time with family during the 4th of July. • Thursday Summer League (all players will participate each week) – At Premier Academy from 6:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. in July (refer to

calendar for specific dates) • Asics Summer Slam Tournament – July 25 and 26 – Times TBD at Premier Academy • Summer Site Camp held at Northview High School – July 29, 30, 31 from 9:00 A.M. to 2:15 P.M.

o Junior High Camp will be held from 2:15 P.M. to 4:15 P.M. o You must register for this site camp online and this will be sent directly to you o You will need to register and pay for this camp by June 1, 2020 o This year this will be 4 weeks long

• Tryouts – One Day Only – August 1, 2020 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. (Session #1) and 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. (Session #2) o Athletes will be required to attend both sessions

• Spirit Wear Order Due – August 2, 2020 Throughout January through May, the calendar will show “Varsity - Monday Small Groups”. This is reserved for our Varsity athletes and will be by invite. Per OHSAA regulations, we are permitted to have four (4) athletes in the gym at one time, therefore, we need to be cognizant of the total number of athletes at each small group session.
