Respect for Self Respect for Others Respect for Property Message from the Principal: 8 June 2018 Dear Parents/Caregivers Thank you to all homes that promptly communicated to us with regards to the PPTA meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Days such as this are messy but it is important that we account for all of our students. It was unfortunate the weather on Wednesday forced the closure of the College and postponement of our 7 aside tournament. We are working with the other schools to try and find another suitable date. At this time of year it is usual for some families to move farms. Can you please ensure you inform the office of your new address and contact details so we can update our records and the bus company. Can I also ask please that you inform me well in advance if you are taking your children out of school for a holiday during term time. Last week we had a visit from the NZ Play House theatre group. Their performances are always entertaining for students and staff alike. Our own production is underway and we look forward to the performance in Term 3. With winter well and truly here and the cooler temperatures, a reminder that we do have puffer jackets for sale at school for $50. Please contact the office if you would like to purchase one. Next Friday we have 15 Year 7&8 students competing at the Northern Primary Cross Country Champs, we wish them well. Dear Parents/Caregivers Thank you to all homes that promptly communicated to us with regards to the PPTA meeting on Tuesday afternoon. It was unfortunate the weather on Wednesday forced the closure of the College and postponement of our 7 aside tournament. We are working with the other schools to try and find another suitable date. This fortnight’s focus has been on glorious sleep. It is something we all need to function, especially growing teenagers. Sleep helps with learning, memory and concentration, as well as overall wellbeing be reducing irritability and makes you less likely to get sick. Our next focus will be on Self Love.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the parents and student helpers for helping the NSC Mixed Hockey Team cater for the Ball: Awesome job and the food was amazing! Mrs Beer and Mrs Ponga

Uniform Update Below is a photo of our new girls' skirt which replaces the current blue/white summer skirt. It is available to be purchased from now on from H&J's and will be a more suitable fit than our current skirt as it has an elastic waist and is longer. The new skirt will also blend in better with the kilt and boys' shorts/trousers. Any girls needing a new skirt (i.e. if their current styled skirt is

shorter than 5 cm above the knee), should purchase the new navy skirt. We expect that all girls starting at NSC from now on will wear the new blue skirt and that by 2022, the new skirt will be completely phased in. Girls can still choose whether they wear the kilt, tie and long or short sleeved drop-collared blouse and navy tights OR the navy skirt, short sleeved drop-collared blouse and white socks, at any time of the year. Boys can wear either the navy shorts and polo top OR navy trousers, long sleeved light blue shirt and tie, at any time of the year. We encourage the wearing of thermals under the uniform for warmth, but ask that the

sleeves/neckline don’t show; if you have a long-sleeved thermal under your short sleeved blouse or polo, you don't take your jersey off or roll up the sleeves if you do take your jersey off. Any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Tracey Cullen, Uniform Convener on behalf of the uniform committee (Mike Newell, Anna Highfield & Tayla Elder)

Girls’ Football The NSC Girls' Football Team have had a great start to the season. Their first game was a 3-0 win against last year’s nemesis Central Southland College, who they had lost to in last season’s final 3-1. A complete team performance with 'Player of the Match' going to Pearl Stevens (first time as Goal-Keeper) and Matilda Highfield (Left-Mid). The second game was a victory against Southland Girls’ High School 4-0. 'Player of the Match' going to Charlotte Rodgers-Foran (Right-Mid) and Pearl Stevens (Goal-Keeper). A special well-done to the new squad members for their performances and for fitting into the squad culture. Mr S Chan (Coach)
