The school motto is Ad Summum,

or “To the Heights”.

This implies the value of setting

our sights fi rmly on the highest goals

and of striving always for better things.

As a school, we have a clear corporate

direction, which models the striving

upwards we expect students to develop

during their time here.

Ad Summum – Ki Te Matauranga teitei

Welcome to Central Southland College

If you’re looking for a stable, rural co-ed school built on strong, caring relationships and people working closely together, you’re looking in the right direction.

If you also feel comfortable with the idea of a moderate sized school, where teachers will get to know your children well, identify their needs and provide well-matched challenges, you’re hot on the trail.

And if you also want a school with a strong focus on continuous

improvement, where teachers are active learners too and which has a sense of being “on the move” – you’ve just found it!

For us, the purpose is clear: we’re here to learn. And children learn best when they feel known, noticed and respected; when they are challenged by high expectations and supported with lots of help.

We look forward to getting to know you!

Central Southland College

“We would like to thank CSC for the many amazing experiences it has provided our two children”

Kevin McSweeney, Principal

Our Focus On Learning

Our purpose is clear – we’re here to learn!

Our smaller classes mean better individual attention. (Average 25 for Juniors, 15 for Seniors).

Extension Mathematics classes at Year 9 and 10, together with a wide range of extra challenges mean there is plenty of stimulation for the more able.

Extra Reading and Maths support mean those who find the basics difficult get the help they need.

Homework is important in some subjects – but very different from Primary school! Students are expected to take increasing responsibility for their own learning.

Teachers go out of their way to provide extra help and tutorials, meaning there is always support when your child needs it.“The staff have been so

supportive and helpful”

ERO’s June 2008 visit confirmed, yet again, the high quality of student care, teaching, and focus on learning at Central Southland College.
