Enviro Mentors Last week we had a visit from Elizabeth from Enviro mentors. She taught us about compost and worm farms. She showed us her very own worm farm with red wriggler worms. We learnt about foods that could kill worms if we put them in the worm farm and learnt what worms love to eat. They love a good mixture of wet and squishy and dry and crunchy materials for example egg shells, shredded paper, fruit (try to avoid citrus so there is not too much acid), vegetable scraps, leaves, grass and more. You need to have 1000 worms to successfully start a worm farm. We were able to make our own compost and the winning team had the best ratio of wet and crunchy. If you have a compost or worm farm you need to make sure you don't leave it in the sun as they will get too hot and damaged. As we have been learning about sustainability this visit was very useful to learn how we can save the planet and our resources. We really enjoyed the hands-on experiences and thank Elizabeth for a great presentation. 4D

STEM Academy Last Wednesday, Emma King and Kurt Roberts from Year 6 started participating in an International STEM Academy called ‘ANZSEA’ (Australia New Zealand STEM Education Alliance). There are 5 students from NSW, 5 from QLD, 5 from NT and 5 from NZ. Each week, Emma and Kurt will be attending a ‘Virtual Online School’ and together with their peers they will be completing a range of STEM projects and tasks. The first lesson was a chance for students to meet their peers and they learnt to navigate the different parts of the online campus.
