SCHOOL SUPERVISIONParents are reminded that formal school supervision beginsat 8.30am each morning and continues during play breaksthroughout the day. At 3.00pm the students are dismissedunder the direct supervision of the staff. Students are expectedto leave the school grounds promptly and where possible, beunder the supervision of a responsible adult or older sibling.

The school understands that many parents have commitmentsat work which require them to leave before 8.30am and orarrive to pick up their children after 3pm. Unfortunately, thereis no staff supervision for students prior to the 8.30am andafter the end of the school day. However, there is availablewithin the school, a Before and After School Care service,Camp Australia which operates, depending on vacancies eachschool day. (1300 105 343)

Parents are reminded that students left unattended in theschool playground will be taken to Before and or After schoolCare for supervision and that this supervision will incur a fee.

HYDE PARK BARRACKS AND SYDNEYMUSEUM EXCURSION

During Week Two, Year Three students had an excursion tothe city and became historians when visiting the Hyde ParkBarracks and the Sydney Museum.

At the Hyde Park Barracks, the World Heritage listed building, the students learnt about the experiences of male convicts wholived at the barracks between 1819 and 1848. Students had theopportunity to try out the hammocks and learn about some ofthe other punishments the convicts faced if they broke the rulesof the barracks. To enhance the experience, the students weregiven convict shirts, marked with the broad arrow and wererequired to work as a team to lay some bricks to get a taste ofconvict work.

The students also visited the Sydney Museum, the original siteof the first Government house. Here, the students were guidedthrough the museum and had the opportunity to look at therange of artworks and artefacts from before and after the arrivalof Europeans. The students stepped back in time and listenedto the Aboriginal peoples' experiences and learnt about thechallenges of communicating without a shared language.

The Year Three students represented Sherwood Ridge PublicSchool with pride and behaved exceptionally well across bothdays. This excursion has enhanced learning experiences withinthe classwork as they can now make positive connections fromtheir findings and observations in their classwork. Once again, well done Sherwood Ridge!
