Remembrance Day Yesterday GNPS paused for one minute’s silence to remember the men and women who gave their lives while serving Australia in wars, conflicts and peace operations. Well done to all of our students who showed respect during this important moment! Thank you to Kaeli, Alex, Emily and Alex for hosting our short assembly, Mrs Woodward for her organisation and Mr Pendlebury for playing the Last Post.

Girls New Uniforms Lowes has contacted the school to say that the new summer uniforms will not be in until early to mid-January. Once they are in during the holidays, we will advertise on our Facebook page. Sorry for this inconvenience. Lowes have the current summer dresses available for half price now. Lost Property Our lost property box is located in Room 2 and a half, which is between 5W and 4E. The box is currently overflowing with jumpers and other items. If you are missing an item, please go and have a look. Hopefully your item has your child’s name on it, which makes it a lot easier to identify.

Tuesday, 13 November 2018 Term 4 Week 5

PBL – Expectation Focus for the Week This week’s focus for PBL is:

“Follow Instructions”

Our PBL expectation for the next two weeks is “Follow Instructions.” Following instructions is easy to do. When you are asked to do something please listen carefully to the instruction and then do your best to follow it through.

Local Debating Final Last Thursday our debating team, consisting of Kaeli, Aotearoa and Chelsea debated against GEPS in the final of the Griffith Debating competition. The debate was an impromptu debate on the topic “Homework should be banned in all primary schools.” Our team was the affirmative and GEPS argued the negative. It was a very close debate and GEPS won the debate.

We would like to thank all our debaters, (both Year 5 and Year 6 teams) for all their hard work this year and especially thank Mrs Delves for coaching the teams all year.

Canteen News Week 5

We have a new menu for this term, which was sent home last term. Please ensure you order from this menu, as some items are no longer available. Chocolate cups are now $2.50. If your child is swimming and they are in Years 3-5 can you please write swimming on their lunch order, as they will be having an earlier lunch. This way their lunch will be ready at 12.30. Thanking you Kelli and Paulina Canteen Supervisors

Kindergarten Orientation 2019 Today was our last day for Kindergarten Orientation. It has been lovely seeing all the 2019 Kinders settling in and having a good time at their new school. I would like to thank Mrs De Paoli, Miss Petrulli, Mrs Aitken and Mrs Adams for all their efforts in organising Kindergarten Orientation and making our new Kindergarten students feel so welcome. We look forward to the new Kinders returning next year to start their education with us at GNPS!

Year 5 Hockey Clinic Last Wednesday, Year 5 participated in a local hockey clinic run by NSW Hockey officials. They learnt passing, trapping and running skills. There were 330 students from the Griffith area, and students had the opportunity to meet two Australian players.

Goal Ball On Thursday the 8th November the students from 1A had the opportunity to learn all about Goalball. Three members of Goalball NSW visited the school and taught them how to control the Goalball and how to stop it. This might sound like something that would be easy to do, but you play the game of Goalball blindfolded! One of the people who taught the students about Goalball is a Para-Olympian, having represented Australia at two Para-Olympics and two World Championships in the sport of Goalball. All the children joined in enthusiastically and were keen to put their new skills to the test. One of the hardest things to do was to be completely silent. As the players can only locate the ball by listening to the bells, both players and spectators have to be completely silent during play. They can only speak or cheer when a goal has been scored and announced by the umpire.
