News story Vehicle tax changes Updates and advice on abolition of the vehicle tax disc.

From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle windscreen. If you have a tax disc with any months left to run after this date, then it can be removed from the vehicle windscreen and destroyed. This includes customers with a Northern

Ireland address, however they will still need to display their MoT disc. There is a video available (Goodbye to the tax disc) which explains that the tax disc will no longer be issued from 1 October 2014. You can watch the video on our YouTube channel.

Health Information in British Sign Language SignHealth is a charity dedicated to making sure Deaf people get the same sort of access as hearing people to healthcare and health information.

Health Advice is hard to come by in sign language. It’s one of the reasons that Deaf people are more likely to be undiagnosed, or poorly treated, for a range of health conditions.

The modern NHS wants patients to be well informed and to make their own healthy choices, but it doesn’t give Deaf people the information or the tools they need to do the job.

SignHealth is growing this library of health information, to provide Deaf people with information on common, life-threatening and life-changing conditions and events.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION During the early years of Victoria’s reign, a pictorial dictionary was created by a young deaf girl, Eliza Pughe. It offers a revealing insight into life in North West Wales at the time, showing that Eliza was being taught at home long before education for deaf children became compulsory. Her book and her story are used as a spring board to explore aspects of hearing loss, deafness and communication. This event is not just for the children, it is for everyone of all ages to help get involved with learning about the history of Eliza Pughe. It is an event where everyone involved can have a lot of fun by being creative and learning at the same time. Everyone is welcome to come along and get involved with creating the displays needed to perform the show and there will be lots of different art and craft materials to make them with. We need helpers to come along and make sure everything is going to plan, and we also need performers to tell the story. I’ll be at the two workshops and getting involved, so come along and let’s have some fun. Please contact me at NWDA if you need more details.
