North Wales Deaf Association e-bulletin July 2015
I'm delighted to introduce myself as the new Chief Executive for NWDA. Having been appointed by
the Board of Trustees, I joined the NWDA staff team on the 8th June and whilst I have met some of our service users, partners and funders in my first 3 weeks I look forward to having the opportunity to meet many more of you in the weeks to come. To tell you a bit about me, I have personal experience of living with a sensory loss being visually impaired myself and the mother of two visually impaired children. Professionally I have some 25 years’ experience of working in the Social Care sector both in statutory health and social services and more recently in the voluntary sector, working in management roles for the last 15 years. I feel very privileged to have now been given the opportunity to lead the dedicated NWDA team, who have been working hard to serve the needs of the Deaf, deafened, deafblind and hard of hearing people in North Wales for 21 years next year. As a team we'd very much like to celebrate this anniversary with you and ask you our service users, partners and funders, what you want from NWDA in the next 21 years. We want to know what you think we do well, what we could do differently and what we could do more of so that we can continue to improve our services to you in the next 21 years. We're currently working on the ways you can best share your thoughts with us but in the meantime I would welcome any opportunity to come to your groups and forums, organisation or on a 1 to 1 basis meet you personally and listen to your feedback and ideas for our future. So if you would like me to attend/visit your group, forum or organisation please do let us know by emailing [email protected] or me personally at [email protected] You can also telephone 01492 530013, fax 01492 532615, minicom 01492 524983 or sms 07719 410355 I look forward to meeting you and discussing our future soon.

The Welsh Government has awarded a contract to Citizens Advice Flintshire to provide a new Discrimination Advice Service across North Wales. The overarching objective of the Service is to provide free advice, casework and representation across North Wales to individuals who may have experienced discrimination at their workplace or in the provision of goods and services. Advice can be provided via telephone, email, Skype, home-visits and face-to-face consultations.
The Discrimination Service is accessible to all and Translation/Communication services will be provided as necessary.
Voluntary sector organisations in North Wales can support this important venture by
promoting the Service within their organisations and sending referrals to Citizens Advice Flintshire.
Depending upon available resources, free discrimination-awareness training sessions
may be provided to relevant organisations to help their advisers identify potential discrimination issues on behalf of clients.
For more details on how to refer clients to us and to receive bilingual posters or leaflets promoting the new Discrimination Service, please contact Fairy Mazkoori at [email protected] or on 01352 706841 between the hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
