A new car parking scheme introducing free short-term parking in Aberdeenshire will begin this week.

The ‘Pay and Park’ scheme will allow car park users to stay for free in any council-run car park in a number of

Aberdeenshire towns for a short time.

New charges for longer periods will also come into force during the first week of December.

Changes to the current car parking charges were approved by Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services

Committee in May 2014 following extensive public consultation.

The period of free parking varies from town to town as well as hours from when further charges apply.

Details of new Pay and Park system

Ellon, Inverurie and Stonehaven – 30-minute period of free parking with charges applicable Monday-Saturday,

8am-6pm inclusive

Banchory – 45-minute period of free parking with charges applicable Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm inclusive

Banff – one hour of free car parking, charges applicable Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm inclusive

Peterhead – one hour of free car parking, charges applicable Monday-Saturday, 8am-3pm inclusive

Fraserburgh – one hour of free car parking, charges applicable Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm inclusive and Saturday

8am-10am inclusive

Oldmeldrum – two hours of free car parking, charges applicable Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm inclusive

Turriff – maximum stay of two hours allowed although parking will be free during this period, this applies Monday-

Saturday, 8am-6pm inclusive

Huntly – no change in car parking charges; 60 pence will be charged for stays of up to one hour, Monday-Saturday,

Police Scotland continues to crackdown on domestic abuse across

the region with officers targeting addresses across Aberdeenshire

and Moray.

They have been working with Domestic Abuse Outreach workers

carrying out checks at a number of properties to ensure the safety

of victims and also to track down offenders of domestic abuse.

A total of 55 addresses have been targeted and various victims and perpetrators have been spoken to. An 18 year old female will be

reported for assault, a 20 year old male will be reported for threatening behaviour and vandalism, a 22 year old female is in custody

for assault and vandalism and a 23 year old male will be reported for bail offences.

Detective Sergeant Kerry Rigg of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit said: "We target persons who commit domestic abuse and

we encourage victims to have the confidence to come forward and report incidents.

"It is an issue which is often under-reported and we want to make it clear that it will not be tolerated and victims will be supported.

There are systems in place that will provide help at home as well as guidance through any judicial processes.

"By concentrating with our partners on reassuring victims, we aim to give them the support and help that they need.

"It is very much a collaborative approach which is taken with a number of partners in the area to support those who may have

experienced or are at risk of experiencing domestic abuse."

Police Scotland is appealing for information fol-

lowing a series of thefts from unsecured vehicles

that is believed to have happened overnight on

Sunday 16 November and into the early hours of

Monday 17 November in Fraserburgh.

Several items, valued at a mid-four figure sum,

were stolen from cars in the Greenbank Place,

Damfield Road and Middleburgh Road areas.

Police Sergeant Scott Massie said: "We are

reminding the public to remain vigilant against

opportunistic thieves and to keep their vehicles

and properties locked in order to deter criminals.

"I would ask car owners to take the necessary

steps to be more conscious about the security of

their vehicles.

"Members of the public who have information or

may have seen any suspicious activity in these

areas are asked to call us on 101 or

Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they wish to

remain anonymous."

Police Scotland has launched a campaign aimed at ensuring

festive High Street and online shoppers and revellers stay safe

over Christmas and New Year with a range of top crime

prevention and safety tips.

The campaign offers a range of advice designed to deliver

criminals an unhappy Christmas by providing the public with

information which helps them shop safe, party safe and stay

secure at home and online.

The Festive Safety campaign’s key crime prevention tips

including:

Don’t leave bags unattended and look after your wallet/purse.

Don’t leave gifts and on display in your car.

Think before you post photos on social media. If in doubt

don’t post it online

Only use trusted sites when shopping online - look for the

‘padlock’ in the address line before entering details

Plan your journey home from a Christmas night out, don’t

leave drinks unattended, stay with your friends and look out

for each other.

Keep your home secure, lock all windows and doors, and

switch on the alarm if you have one.

Don’t advertise an empty home by posting festive plans

online.
