The North Knoxville Business & Professional Association (NKBPA) was foundedin 2004 by a core group that wanted to support the North Knoxville area. Many ofthese founding members are still very active and on the board of our association.Their dedication to North Knoxville drives home what many already know: NorthKnoxville is a great place to work, shop and live.

Since 2004 our organization has grown to have an average of 50 attendees atmonthly meetings and an active membership of over 130 businesses andProfessionals. While we do not have strict geographic boundaries, we primarilycover the area immediately North of the center city in the 37917 zip code.

Specifically the NKBPA supports the business and professional community by:• Encouraging new business development and supporting existing businesses• Building relationships between businesses and neighborhoods• Collaborating with and financially supporting non-profit organizations serving

North Knoxville• Awarding annual Fulton High School student scholarships

Our association has been active in the Broadway Corridor Taskforce formed byMayor Rogero. The Taskforce is looking at challenges and opportunities in theBroadway corridor between North Central and I-640. We continue to work with Citystaff and representatives from the Belle Morris, Edgewood Park, Fairmont-Emoriland,Fourth & Gill, Oakwood Lincoln Park and Old North Knoxville neighborhoodorganizations. The East Tennessee Community Design Center has been contracted tospecifically look at Broadway between the Hall of Fame Drive area and north toBranson Avenue. The study will eventually result in a proposed streetscape forBroadway similar to that planned for N. Central Street.

Meetings are held on the 2nd Friday of each month at rotating locations.The meetings start at 7:45 a.m. and a sponsored breakfast is provided. If youare not already receiving our newsletter and meeting notices, please emailNKBPA.info@gmail.com to be added to our mailing list.

Our Beginning....In June 2003, six (6) individuals met at the Shoney’s Restaurant onBroadway, to discuss the need in the North Knoxville area, of such anorganization for businesses and professionals. All six (6) agreed that it wastime for this to happen. Consequently, a letter was composed to invite localbusinesses and professional people to a meeting that was held two (2)weeks later at the Fulton High School Library. The turn out and interestwas good enough to give this idea a real try. Another letter and anothermeeting the following month, at the FHS Library, was even larger.

The goal of this organization is to help our area be recognized more, havebusinesses more informed of the activities and events going on in thecommunity, to pool our resources together and help out in this area, andbe able to organize when there is a need to fight for the rights of ourcommunity.

We are currently in our twelfth year as a Business & ProfessionalAssociation. We have held meetings in over thirty different locationswithin the North Knoxville area.

We meet on the second Friday of every month at 7:45 a.m. at differentlocations. Breakfast has been served at several of the meetings fromvarious vendors and/or groups. We publish updates and meeting noticesto inform everyone of the where’s and when’s. We have not, as of yet,established a permanent meeting place because of all of the interestingplaces that current members have volunteered their facility to show-offtheir place of business.
