ANCHORS FOR LIFE

Culver Lake is our little slice of heaven. How amazing it was to see the bald eagle swoop down in front

of our boat and pluck a fish out of the lake with his talons. That was a rare privilege. Then I saw two

bears on the Culver Lake golf course. Respectfully, I kept a safe distance. All around the lake children

are playing – swimming, biking, and laughing. There is a majestic health and wholeness to it all – a

peaceable kingdom of rest, relaxation and renewal.

We live in a noisy, turbulent world. It is difficult to watch the television news reports from Egypt, Syr-

ia, and Pakistan – just to name a few. I have been privileged to travel the world. What I have seen in

Asia and Africa, in Europe and Central America is the same – moms and dads who love their children

and want to put a roof over their heads, food in their bodies, education in their minds, and the oppor-

tunity for a future of peace and freedom. How blessed we are to live the U.S.A.

The great Danish theologian, Soren Kierkegaard, wrote, “Life must be lived forwards, but it can only be

understood backwards.” With age comes the deep appreciation of life’s simple gifts. Looking back we

realize how unimportant that new car was, or the expensive jewelry, or the new furniture. The true

treasures that remain are the memories of the good times together with family and friends – at a

place like Culver Lake. So go and make a treasured memory today!

Our summer fishing contest is now open. If you catch a lunker, you can weigh it in at Mike and Stephanie Liebl’s house or at Stokes Sport Shop. If you are weighing in a fish at the Liebls’ please call them between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm to see if you can stop by their house to weigh in. If you catch a large fish late at night, put it in a live well or on a stringer and weigh it in at a reasonable hour, after calling first. Please remember you must have a current member or guest badge to weigh in a fish. As of June 15, bass season has opened. While the Men’s Club prefers that all bass caught be returned to the lake, if you choose to keep a bass, it must be at least 12 inches long and no more than 5 per day. Please check the Normanoch News for upcoming game nights for the Men’s Club and Women’s Club on Tuesday evenings at 7 pm. Next game nights are scheduled for July 24, August 7 and 21. Come down to the club to play bridge or any other game you are interested in. This is a casual evening for Women’s Club and Men’s Club members and their guests. Bring your beverage of choice and enjoy a Culver Lake sunset while connecting with some of your neigh-bors over a friendly game or two. A great way to spend an even-ing. Wow – what great weather we are having! I know our yards and flowers desperately need some rain, but it’s been so nice at the beach and the lake is so warm! I just love it! Hopefully the weather will continue to be good (and only rain at night) so we can get to all the other fun things we have planned: Get ready to shop ‘til you drop – TOMORROW is Vendor Day, from 1-4pm at the Club House! Some of the vendors who will be there are Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Taste-fully Simple, Sweet Caroline's cupcakes, Premier Jewelry, and more! There are al-ways lots of wonderful things to be found and it’s a great time to get started on your holiday shopping! Plus, tomorrow (7/21), at 6:30 please join us for our FAMILY SCAVENGER HUNT. Meet us in front of the Club House if you want to participate (No advanced sign-ups are required.) The Men’s club will be providing ice cream after the event. The Women’s Club will hold our annual business meeting this Wednesday, the 25th at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend! Stop by our Koffee Klatch this week for a special treat as Romana Raffetto talks us through the History of Pasta! Roman has given this presentation to many other groups, so don’t miss your opportunity! Attendees will receive a small gift. Don’t forget about our regular weekly activities: the Quilt Group meets on Mondays from 9-2; Yoga is on Wednesday at 1:00; and Zumba is on Thursday at 7:00. If you are signed up to attend the trip to NYC to see Anything Goes you MUST PAY BY THIS MONDAY JULY 23RD! We will also be hosting Children’s Theater again this summer. We are working with a local theater company and the schedule will be slightly different, with a two week session the weeks of August 6 and August 13. More details to follow. See you around the lake!

SUBMIT QUESTIONS FOR THE ANNUAL MEETING NOW!

The Board of Directors again ask shareholders to consider what specific issues they wish the board to address and to submit them in advance. This will enable the board members to do any necessary research and provide more complete answers at the meeting of August 4, 2012 at 10 am. Please mail, fax (973-948-6960), or drop off your written questions at the clubhouse.

YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT Information about the stockholders’ annual meeting to be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 will be in your mail very soon if you are eligible to vote at that meeting. You can vote if you were a stockholder of record at the close, of business on July 13, 2012. Please read the information and send in your proxy promptly. The mailing label on the back of your proxy form shows your name/s as it/they appear on the corporate rec-ords. To be valid, the proxy should be signed just that way. If stock is owned jointly, each person should sign. One person should not sign both names. If an owner is deceased and the stock has not yet been transferred on the corporate records, the deceased person’s legal representative, executor or executrix, can sign for the de-ceased and should send a copy of the surrogate’s certificate or other document appointing him or her with the signed proxy form. The number under your name and address indicate the number of shares in that name. When your proxy form is properly signed, dated, and returned, the share/s it represents will be voted by the Board of Directors of the Normanoch Association, Inc. as explained on the form and in the information you will receive with it. Giving the board your proxy means that you designate the majority of directors to vote in your place at the annual meeting. That authorization can be revoked at any time before the voting on August 4th by any of the following methods: 1. written notice to the Corporate Secretary, Mary Clare van den Heuvel 2. issuing a subsequent proxy 3. attending the annual meeting and personally casting your ballot at that time. Please be sure to vote and to attend the meeting.

Kayaking

Kayaking has increased on our lake in the past few years. With the increase of these small enjoyable crafts also comes

increased safety concerns. Please be aware when you are out in your motorized boats that these smaller sailors are out

and about.

Kayakers—Here are some general safety tips to help make your outings safer: Always have a floatation devise with you.

Children under 12 years of age MUST be wearing an US Coast Guard approved Personal Floatation Devise. It’s also a

good idea for adults to wear them. Lead by Example!! Always let someone know that you are going out on the water.

When you buy your kayak and any gear, choose bright colors. Choose bright orange, yellow or bright green. Red and

dark green are not good at distances. If you have a kayak that blends in with the scenery think about adding a bright or-

ange flag to your kayak, or perhaps bright orange or fluorescent green reflective tape for your paddles. A whistle or air

horn on your kayak can be used to signal distress if an emergency arises. Watch where you cross the lake. Crossing

across the middle of the lake may seem like a good idea and save you some paddling, but remember that you may not be

seen by the larger boats, especially at sunset. Choose your course well and keep in mind visibility issues. Last, don’t for-

get the sunblock. We wouldn’t want your great day ruined by a bad burn. Enjoy yourselves on our big beautiful lake!!

Gently spread cream cheese mix-ture over batter, leaving a 1 inch border around outer edges. Spoon remaining batter over cream cheese mixture. Swirl batter gen-tly with knife. Dog Owners

Dear Dog Owners,

We all love man’s best friend, but we need to be courteous of man’s neighbors also. Please keep your dogs leashed (Frankford Twp. Law) and please pick up after your pooch. Loose dogs can be frightening to small children and adults who are not used to dogs. It can also give good dogs a bad name if an accident happens. Dog feces will eventually wash into our lake. Need we say more than Yuck?! Thank you for your cooperation.
