Introduction

The Journal of the Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society has been produced from the early days of the Society. As technology has advanced so the layout and printing has improved.

Volume 1 was produced in landscape format duplicated from typed stencils. Most articles in this vol-ume are short, each journal being 20 to 40 pages.

Volume 2 saw the introduction of much improved typing and printing, and more detailed reports. Today the Journal is laid out with DTP and printed to a similar standard, and often is over 100 pages in size. Unfortunately the photographic reproduction varies with printer.

The Journal represents a body of work of considerable importance. Within its pages are the records of many sites now gone. Back issues of more recent volumes are available, (little before 2000) and vol-ume 1 we have reproduced as a single volume with many additional photographs. We currently are not able to supply copies of articles from out of print volumes, however we have this as an objective over the next few years.

The Journal has been taken by some of the major technology and archaeology national bodies as well as copyright libraries. In Norfolk copies should be available from local libraries.

The Societies newsletter has for many years carried brief notes of meetings and lectures given to the Society, taking over this role from the early journals.

The Journal Editor welcomes submissions for publication from non members.

As well as the material published much additional material remains in our archives, and over the coming years we hope to publish more of this material.

‘Conference’ refers to the special Journal produced for the AIA Conference, held in Norwich in 1981.

IntroductionThe Journal of the Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society has been produced from the early days of theSociety. As technology has advanced so the layout and printing has improved.Volume 1 was produced in landscape format duplicated from typed stencils. Most articles in this volumeare short, the journal being 30 to 40 pages.Volume 2 saw the introduction of much improved typing and printing, and more detailed reports.Today the Journal is laid out with DTP and printed to a similar standard, and often is over 100 pages insize.

The Journal represents a body of work of considerable importance. Within its pages are the records ofmany sites now gone.

Back issues of more recent volumes are available, and volume 1 will be available on CDROM towards theend of 2005. We are not able to supply copies of articles from out of print volumes.

The Societies newsletter has for many years carried brief notes of meetings and lectures given to the Soci-ety, taking over this role from the early journals.

The Journal Editor welcomes submissions for publication from non members.
