Hutch. (2): 700. 1959. - Restioniacea. The generic name Restio Linnaeus was

published first in November 1767, with one species which is taxonomically identical with Thamnlochortus fruticosus Bergius, published in September 1767. All authors, however, have niaintained "Restio L." in a sense excluding the original species, and hence the proposal to conserve the name in the sense which has beeii current for the past 150 years or more.

Proposal n. 179 for the Paris Congress l)y Ht. P. Fuchs [Taxon 3: 133. 1954].

Votes: In favour of conservation 0; Against conservation 4; Abstention 1.

Fuchs' proposal for the conservation of Lolaria is rejected for two reasons: 1) The type of Lomaria cannot be Lomnaria spicant (L.) Desv., selected by Fuchs as the type species of the genus. The first occasion oni which Willdenow used binomials under Lomaria was. in his edition of Linnaeus' Spe- cies Plantarum published in 1810, the year following his publication of the genus. There is no mention of Osmunda spicant L. under Lomnaria, but the plant appears under Blech- num L. as Blechnuml boreale Sw. with Os- munda spicant cited in synonymy. Hence another species must be selected as the lecto- type of Lomaria. 2) Lomaria is regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Blechnum L. in all
