To cater for this demand, a new primary school facility will be built in Knocknacarra. Work on the new facility is scheduled to begin in September 2013 and the location currently earmarked for the project is adjacent to the new permanent site for Coláiste na Coiribe in Knocknacarra. The meeting allowed the school to put forward the views of the pupils and parents directly to the Minister. I have had several meetings with the Minister and his advisors regarding the scheme. On my side, I impressed on the Minister the huge effort the school had put into fundraising, the real success of the Naíonra project and the fact that the plan was shovel ready and is able to go to tender at a moment’s notice. I will continue to work with the school on this important issue. I have been working with management and parents at Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh in the campaign to secure a new extension forthe school.

I arranged a meeting between the schools principal and chairman with Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn to discuss the issue.

The meeting allowed the school to put forward the views of the pupils and parents directly to the Minister.

I have had several meetings with the Minister and his advisors regarding the scheme. LOCAL NEWS

The long-awaited widening of the Ballymoneen Road recently took a step forward withthe news that major progress has been made by Galway City Council with the landpurchase for the project.

The works will see the Ballymoneen Road widened north of the roundabout and south ofthe Slí Gheal estate, making it safer for both road users and pedestrians.

The Labour Party had campaigned to have this dangerous stretch of road widened and thenecessary footpaths and public lighting installed.

Negotiations have been taking place for some time in relation to purchasing a necessarypiece of land to accommodate the widening of the road although the process was delayed.

The funding for the works was included in Galway City Council’s annual budget for 2012and the Council is waiting for the transfer of the land to fully complete before theyundertake the works.

WIDENING OF THE BALLYMONEEN ROAD

Galway County Council will soon proceed with the Tonabrucky reservoir project, following the provision of €800,000 in funding.

This service is essential to provide a high quality water supply for the west of the city, including Knocknacarra, Rahoon and Westside. This region has experienced considerablepopulation growth and this funding will permit construction to commence without delay.
