Immunization News: No Shots Across Texas Due to changes to State policy, the Montgomery County Public Health District has sent notification that Shots Across Texas will not be held this August. The Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) program no longer allows vaccinations to children covered by private insurance. Local public health clinics can vaccinate uninsured children or those covered by Medicare, CHIP, or SSI. Regulations require that those with private insurance see their physician. Parents and students are encouraged to make vaccination appointments as soon as possible to avoid long lines and delays. Immunization requirements have not changed for Texas school children for the 2012-13 school year. If you do not have insurance, call 211 or visit http://www.vaccinatemctx.org for a list of clinics and events that provide vaccines at little or no cost to you. If you have Medicaid, CHIP or SSI, contact your primary care provider to schedule an appointment. Most immunizations are covered by your plan. If you have private insurance, call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out what your plan covers. Then call your physician to schedule vaccination appointments. To determine what shot your child needs, contact your school nurse or visit the DSHS website at www.immunizetexas.org.
