He specializes in the treatment of women with eating disorders and co-occurring conditions. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry; has added qualification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Addiction Medicine; and is ABAM certified. Dr. Wandler is a Fellow and president-elect of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) and a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS). He was the founding Director of the EDRC eating disorder program at the University of Florida and the founding Medical Director of the Recovery Village, a substance abuse and eating disorder program in the greater Orlando area. It is often a combination of Substance Abuse and an Eating Disorder. The mortality rate associated with Eating Disorders is 12 times higher than the death rate of ALL causes of death for females ages 15-24 and the third most chronic illness among adolescents. This presentation will review eating disorders when combined with substance abuse and other co-occurring disorders. Screening tools for both will be reviewed as well as treatment interventions.
