Newsletter for 24th August 2016
Wentworth Show week is upon us again. Looks like it is going to be fine weather and as usual there
is a buzz in the air. Thank you to the staff and students for their many hours of preparation and
planning. The works of art look fantastic and it will be great to see all of our students work on
display. If your child/children are able to assist with the cooking demonstration please complete
and return the attached slip by Friday.
Our annual Father’s Day breakfast will take place Friday 2nd September from 8am in the morning.
We look forward to seeing the many males that are important people in our students lives. Some
yummy bacon and eggs is a great way to start the day.
Thanks to Mrs Farley for organising visits to the Wentworth Library last week for all classes to
celebrate Book Week. It was lovely to get an email from the Librarian congratulating and thanking
the staff and students for their great work.
Our Book Week dress up and book activity day is being planned for next term due to a super busy
remainder of Term 3.
Have a great week and see you at the Show!

CANBERRA 2016
Canberra is fast approaching. I have sent home a list of items required for the trip for everyone
to stick on the fridge. I have also sent an indemnity form for our zoo trip that must be returned
ASAP. Payment is due for Canberra 1st September.
Pocket money for the trip has been set at $20 per day ($80 maximum). It is important that the
money be put into separate envelopes with the students name clearly marked.
Students are allowed to bring technology items such as Ipod’s, tablets. However it is very
important to understand that students do so at their own risk. These items will be removed from
students upon arrival at Canberra and stored until the return trip.
PACER
Some of our Year 6 students will soon be undertaking an education tour of the national capital.
Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a
focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit
the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting
the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student
under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is
paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion and has already been excluded from
the final payment total.
RFDS ROWATHON—SATURDAY 8TH OCTOBER
The P&C are again catering for the RFDS Rowathon on Saturday 8th October (last weekend of
the holidays). We are looking for helpers on the day with morning tea/lunch/afternoon tea and on
the Friday before to help prepare food. If you could spare a couple of hours to help out, that
would be fantastic. We are in need of donations of cakes/slices/biscuits for afternoon tea, fruit
and eggs. Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Please contact Becky Bysouth 0428 273 009 or leave a message with Janet at the School Office.
Thank you,
Becky Bysouth

KINDER G NEWS
Hello everybody!
The students have been hard at work finishing off their felt art for the Wentworth Show. The art
looks fantastic and I am sure the students are excited to share their achievements with the
community. We have also been practising writing as many words as possible in preparation for the
writing challenge which we will hold next week. Remember, sponsorship money is due by this Friday.
There is a new display in our room, which shows some of the goals that the students are working hard
to achieve. When they achieve one of their goals, they will get to bring home a little certificate to
celebrate their hard work.
A few reminders:
Homework was sent home on Monday, please return next Friday (Week 7).
Home readers are swapped every Thursday. Please remember to write in the number of nights
they have read, not the number of books.
Thanks for another great week!
Emma Gulliford
K/1 B NEWS
Hello and welcome to week 6.
Everyone is very excited in K/1B; only a few more days until the show. Good luck to everyone who has
entered items or who are competing in events at this year’s show. Don’t forget to call in to the school
tent and say hi.
We have been working hard to increase our writing vocabulary; that is how many words we can write in
ten minutes. I am sure that we will all achieve the goals that were set for our writing challenge next
week. The writing challenge forms and sponsor money is due back at school this Friday 26th August.
On Friday 2nd September there will be a Father’s Day breakfast at school. Invites to this event have
been sent home today.
Homework is due back on Friday 2nd September.
It is lovely to see everyone coming to school in their school uniform. Remember to send a note to
explain if out of uniform or for any absences.
Have a great week and I hope to see you all at the Wentworth Show!

YEAR 1/2S NEWS
We only have a few more days until the Wentworth Show. The children are very excited! We have
already had two students do extremely well in the show poster competition. Well done to Erica
Brooker for winning first prize in the Year One section and Madeline Heywood for getting a Highly
Commended award in the Year 2 section. Keep an eye out for the 1/2S felt items and postage stamps
they have entered in the show. Best of luck to everybody! We also have some fantastic work showing
at the Wentworth Public School display.
Next Wednesday 31st August I will be off to the Murray Darling Athletics Carnival. The class will
either be split up or have a casual teacher for the day. Readers will not be checked and changed due
to my absence. Sorry for any inconvenience.
A few reminders:
* Book Club orders due back on Friday 2nd September.
* Readers checked and changed every day.
*Library borrowing Thursdays.
* The Spelling Challenge forms and sponsor money is due back at school this Friday 26th
August.
* Homework went out last Monday and is due back Friday 2nd September.

YEAR 1/2R NEWS
Welcome to another exciting week in Year 1/2R. We have been busy finishing off the last entries for
the show. As lovely as it is to participate in all the wonderful competitions for the show, we are
looking forward to getting back to normal next week.
We have some exciting times ahead in Year 1/2R as we start exploring a range of Technology ideas
and activities. I have purchased 2 BeeBots for the class and the Osmo starter kit. The students will
be learning how to apply a whole range of problem solving skills to a variety of activities. We will keep
you updated through the school Facebook page. Exciting times ahead!
Please ensure the Spelling Challenge fundraiser money and note is due back this Friday. It is for a
great initiative and will benefit all students in the long run.
Homework went home today as I was away at the end of last week and was unable to mark it. There
are a few extra pieces of work this fortnight that the students have chosen to take. Please only do
what your child feels comfortable with at the time. I would much rather you listen to your child read
if nothing else. Next week, the students will be bringing home a picture book that I would like you to
read to them. It is so important for children to see and hear their parents reading to them. Also,
have a chat about the book after you have read it and ask them why they think certain things
happened in the story. But most importantly, enjoy that special time with your child, they are only
little for such a short period of time.
Reminders:
* Home readers due on Tuesdays and Fridays
* Bookclub due back 2nd September.

MISS POMROY’S CLASS
We are now past the halfway point in the term and Wentworth Show is on this weekend! All students
have artworks and craft items on display, so make sure you visit these attractions over the weekend.
Yesterday we had a fantastic Kitchen Garden session with the students making a variety of dips to be
served at the Wentworth Show from the school tent. Another wonderful (delicious) reason to visit
and support the Show.
This week the students began the 2016 NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge and will log their physical
activity daily. Log books will remain in class and be completed during class time.
On Monday, homework was sent home and is due back by Friday 2nd September. Home reading is an
essential part of your child’s learning so please record reading at home in school diaries.
There will be a Father’s Day raffle run by the Year 5’s and tickets will be available at the school tent
at the show. We would love to have students assist on either of the days at the tent, to assist with
the running of the craft activities or the cooking demonstration with Ruth.
The Spelling Challenge fundraiser is due back this Friday, ready for the spelling task next week.
Reminders:
Diaries with updated Reading Data due this Thursday, 25th August.
Year 4/5 Swan Hill Excursion Medical notes due back by Friday 2nd September.
Fruit donations for daily Crunch & Sip.
Keep smiling,

MISS SUCKLING’S CLASS NEWS.
Welcome to another week, almost half way through.
This week we have been working hard to finish our items for the Wentworth show, let me just say
that they look amazing. I hope everyone gets a chance to get there this weekend and have a look at
the amazing work that everyone has produced.
Homework has gone home this week and will be due in the 2nd of September.
I have had some requests to put my email into the newsletter so that students can use Lexia at home;
* Homework went home today
Have a wonderful week
Cheers

Father’s day raffle tickets are going home today as well as the invitations for the fathers day BBQ.

MISS MARZIE’S CLASS
On Monday all the students in the class took home their log book to participate in the 2016 NSW
Premier’s Sporting Challenge. It’s important they keep a record of their weekly time spent on the
healthy use of their leisure time. Logs will be collected every Friday so that the data can be recorded
through the necessary avenues.
Last week some of our class members presented their research speech on famous / well known Aboriginal
people. It’s terrific to witness how far they have come from the start of the year with ‘public speaking’
and accepting or giving critics. These speeches have continued throughout this week also.
A new set of homework was sent home on Monday and is due back by Friday 2nd September. It’s
important that reading is a regular aspect of their weekly homework task.
Kitchen Garden will be on again next week on Wednesday 31st August; commencing with kitchen this time,
then followed by garden. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Year 3’s please make sure you read the special Year 3 information in the newsletter regarding the
excursion note that was sent home today.
Year 5’s have a special item regarding the Father’s Day raffle which will also be running at the school
tent at the show. Any students who are able to assist either of the days at the tent, whether it’s with
one of the craft activities or the cooking demonstration with Ruth, would be much appreciated.
Please remember that the Spelling Challenge fundraiser is due back this Friday, ready for the spelling
task next week. Let’s hope everyone reaches their goal.
Reminders:
Diaries with updated Reading Data due this Thursday, 25th August due to show organisation.
Year 4/5 Swan Hill Excursion Medical notes due back by Friday 2nd September.
Fruit donations for daily Crunch & Sip.
Hope to see you at the show,

MRS HALLS’ CLASS NEWS
Show week is here already, wow how time flies. Make sure that you check out all of the student’s items on
display when you visit the show. Also call into the schools tent and say hi to everyone. Our visits to the
high school have commenced again today. It is great to see so much transition occurring this year.
Last week I sent home a list of items required for the Canberra excursion and also an indemnity form for
the zoo. It is essential that this form is returned asap as students are unable to participate in the
activities that occur at the zoo without it.
Next Wednesday I will be traveling with the school leaders to Mungo for the Mungo Youth Conference.
We will be camping from Wednesday through to Friday. I’m sure they will enjoy catching up with the
leaders from Hunters Hill.
Homework has gone out again on Monday and will be due for return on Friday the 2nd of September and
again a reminder that reading diaries must be returned each Friday.
Have a great week everyone.
Jenny Halls.
