Dear Parents, The children seem well settled and happy and we are still enjoying the sunshine! Because the weather is so unpredictable, however, we are happy for the children to come to school in either summer or winter uniform until half-term. After that winter uniform will be compulsory. The building work continues and is making good progress. Some of the children are treating the hoarding on the forecourt as a challenge rather than a barrier and are attempting to squeeze past at BOTH ends - by the gate and also near the Kindergarten Blue classroom. Please continue to watch them very carefully at the beginning and end of the day as this is a dangerous area. We have recently updated the Parents’ Handbook. It contains useful information about all as- pects of school life and is posted on our website. We hope it will answer many of your questions about school life. If not, of course, please continue to contact us if you have a query. If you wish to make contact with a teacher by email, please continue to send your email to enquir- [email protected] . All messages are forwarded on very quickly, but you will understand that teachers are in front of their classes all day and often do not have a chance to read emails until the end of the day. We are grateful to you for writing to ask permission for children’s absences from school. Please would you also fill in a Request for Leave of Absence form and hand it in to the Office as we need these for our records. The teachers in Kindergarten would like to explain to the parents of their pupils how we teach Phonics. Those parents are therefore invited to a special Phonics Meeting in Kindergarten Blue on Monday 26 th September at 6.00 p.m. We hope you will all attend. Last year many of you kindly donated money via the Miyamoto family in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and Tsunami in Japan in March. I have received a package from the Fukujuji Temple thanking us for our help and saying that the money is being used ‘for our people and repairment of the damage by great earthquake 3/11. Thank you very much for all the mem- bers of your college’. They also sent photographs and information about their area which is avail- able in the School Office if you would like to have a look. I would like to take the opportunity here to congratulate Miss Smyth, who has just completed an MA in Art Therapy with Distinction. Last year Mrs O’Shea completed the Graduate Training Pro- gramme with us, achieving Level 1 (the highest!). Last Year Mrs Rizzo achieved EYPS (Early Years Professional Status) and Mrs Healey achieved Higher Level Teaching Assistant Status. We are very proud of all of them for working so hard to further their professional skills for the benefit of our school. Anne Dobell

YEAR 6 PARENTS’ EVENINGS Since we fixed the dates for these evenings we have discovered that Notting Hill and Ealing High School have their only Open Evening on Wednesday 12th October. Since many of our girls will want to attend, it would make sense if we could have an evening for BOYS on October 12th and for GIRLS on October 10th (this is the only time we will discriminate in this way!). I realise this might not be possible for all of you, but could you please let the Office know by next Friday 23rd so that we can try to work something out? We will of course make sure that all Year 6 parents have a full consultation with us one way or another. The meetings last 15 minutes. You will see me , Mrs Austin and Mrs Lovell, together. We will

talk about your child’s progress and have an in-depth discussion about choices for senior

schools.

Kindergarten Green Outing to Pizza Express

On Wednesday 14th September the children of Kindergarten Green went on their first school trip of the academic year to Pizza Express in Kew Village. The children were extremely excited about making pizzas and learning the ingredients that go into each pizza base. The children displayed sensible behaviour on the walk to and from Kew Village and listened to instructions well. The children made adventurous choices with their pizza toppings, with some children selecting olives and anchovies, among many others! Once back at school the children ate a slice of their pizza and remarked how deli-cious it tasted! The remaining pizza went home with the children at the end of the school day. A big well done to Kindergarten Green for doing so well on this first school trip and special thanks to Miss Cunningham and Mr Flood for assisting Miss Lawrence and me. All in all a lovely day! Miss Rosenthal

Calling all keyboard players! We need more musicians to join this unique after school club on Thursdays between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for pianists whose instrument makes it often a solitary and isolated activity when the greatest joy in playing music is to be part of a band or orchestra. The Keyboard ensemble will be practising Christmas carols and works by Holst, Mendels-sohn and Vivaldi, using strings and brass sounds according to the music. The parts are writ-ten to fit all sorts of abilities although Grade 1 level is a minimum. Please register with the office or for more information contact James Hayes on 07947473771.

Orchard House v Kew College On Thursday 15th September Kew College played a netball match against Orchard house school. The game was off to a good start as Annabel scored our first goal. We ran back to our start posi-tions and when the game started again we had another goal scored, but that was when Orchard House made their move and were soon level with us. Due to our determination we were in the lead once more as Olivia and Jade scored a further two goals. The whistle blew for half time and Mrs Links gathered us in to encourage us and we all had a quick drink. We ran back onto the netball court for the second half of the match. In this half we had very good passes but we did not manage to score any more goals. Ruby marked her partner well and we managed to get the ball of the other team several times but the opposing team got four more goals leaving the match at 6-4 to Orchard House . Everyone in the B team played really well and we had lots of support and cheering from the parents. I think we need to work on marking one partner only. Well done Kew College! Freya 5S Bella 5M
