Windera State School– the hub of the community with everybody working together.
Hi all,
I can’t believe how quickly the year is passing. Everything is so busy for me at the moment with a lot
of conferences, meetings and training days. Hopefully there will be only a few meetings each term
for the remainder of the year. Today, tomorrow and Friday I am away in Toowoomba and next
week we have the State Wide Principal’s Conference in Brisbane on Monday, Tuesday and Wednes-
day. I feel fortunate to be teaching a great group of children who follow the school rules for all
adults. I am also thankful to have Mrs Cross fill in while I am away.
Parent information session- Thank-you all parents who came to the school on Tuesday, February
12 for the information session. I trust you feel more informed on your child’s schooling and the
school ‘s procedures.
P&C Meeting-
A reminder that the P&C AGM is on Tuesday, March 19 at 3:30pm in the Community Room at the
school.
Centenary Committee– The Centenary Committee met on Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00pm. Our
centenary celebrations in May, 2020 will be here soon so it is important if a family member has
memorabilia to share or memories to share, that they type and send information to the school or
the committee for display or publishing. Robyn Kratzmann is collecting recipes so please forward
your favourite cooking and baking recipes to her.
Homework– Thank-you all parents who are supporting your child/ren’s reading by taking time to
listen to them read daily. All students have improvements to be made on fluency, vocabulary de-
velopment and spelling. Dailyreading aloud can help all students.
Cross Country– All students have an event to run at the Small Schools’ Cross Country Carnival at
Cloyna on Friday, March 22. The weather is hot but it is important that all students begin training
so that they are able to complete the distances on the day. Please have your child/ren run around
the farm, up the road, around the house or do some skipping to increase fitness. We will begin
training at school soon. Students will run around the oval so please ensure they have proper sand-
shoes suitable for running.

Let’s BE RESPECTFUL,
BE SAFE and BE POSITIVE
and BE A LEARNER too!
At Windera we continue to follow our four values:
Be Safe Be Positive
Be Respectful Be a Learner
Expectations are explicitly taught to students each Monday and revised each morning after the values song.
Students not displaying the expected behaviour are reminded of the actions they need to take to be fulfilling the
expectation. The expectation for week 3 was:
Be a Learner. I move quickly after break times to be ready for learning.
The expectation for week 4 is:
Be Respectful. I follow instructions promptly without a verbal response.
Award winners for good work and behaviour in Week 2 were-
Student of the Week– Tameka Ninness
Math Award– Jed Ninness
Kindness Award– Joshua Brunner
Music Award– Jed Ninness and Karl Rockemer.
Award winners for good work and behaviour in Week 3 were-

On Friday 8th February, the school leaders Connagh, Josie and Phoe-
nix travelled to Kingaroy to participate in a Leadership Day with oth-
er school leaders from the area. The four core character traits of a
leader are:
1. Confidence with humility
2. Others focused
3. Empathy
4. Reliability
The students learnt about these traits and identified areas for self improvement. The day was well organised and
the students learnt many valuable lessons to apply when leading the school.

Music with Mrs van Kempen
We are learning the
Elements of Music…so
far, Dynamics, Rhythm
and this week, Pitch. We did pitch mapping to show how
to make high and low sounds. We finished our lessons
with learning about the ukulele and C chord. In our
Rhythm lesson, we used our boomwhackers and claves
(clapping sticks) to show short and long sounds with beat
and tempo.
Students continue to participate in the PE units of ‘Playing with Balls’ (Prep – Year 3) & ‘Play2Rhythm’ (Year 4-6). Getting involved in these units will help us practice our small and large balls throwing, catching and striking skills.
As the athletics carnivals are being brought forward this year (due to the nationals being held in Darwin in September) we will be starting our Athletics units later this term. Prep – Year 2 will be doing the unit ‘Take your marks, get set, play’ and the Year 4 – Year 6 will be doing the ‘Athletics spectacle’ unit.

Hi All,
The start of the year has begun well and the students have settled into
their new classrooms with their teachers. Apart from some very hot
weather, it has been a very pleasant beginning to Term 1. Be sure your child has a cold
water bottle to bring to school while it is so hot. I have included some simple tips in this
newsletter which you may find interesting to help your child thrive at school.
Spend some special time with your child, so they can tell you their news about their
day at school (have afternoon tea together) Let them express their feelings. If
they have an issue they can’t deal with themselves, then use it to teach them how
to problem solve: Ask questions to help them consider what they could do differ-
ently next time or who they could talk to at school for help.
Always speak positively about school, their class and their teacher, in front of your
child. Children are very sensitive to the opinion of those they love. If you believe
they can do it, they’ll believe in themselves. If your young child is stressed about
starting school, highlight all the fun things that they like to do when at school.
Keep painting a positive picture of school when talking with them.

Here is one of my favourite lunch box recipes. I like to make them ahead and freeze
until needed. Put them straight from the freezer into the lunch box and they will still
be cold for lunch time.
Enjoy Chappy
Mini Cheese and Bacon Muffins
Put 1 cup of Self Raising flour, 1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese, ½ cup bacon bits, 1 teaspoon
fresh parsley or chives in a bowl. Crack an egg in a measuring cup and add enough milk to fill the cup. Add this to the bowl and mix all ingredients together with a spoon. Grease a mini muffin tray and spoon the mixture into it. Bake at 180 – 200 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes or till golden. Cool, then freeze muffins. When you need them, pack them into lunch
boxes straight from the freezer.
