Welcome to Week 10! Kia ora koutou,

We've done it! We have made it to the last week of term three. It's been a busy term with lots of different events and activities happening. Some of the highlights have included the Whale Watch trip, Kiwi Sport, Hurunui 7 Aside, 'Mid Year Concert', Ski Trip, performances in the hall and much more. It is often at the end of these busy terms that I stop and look back and realise how lucky our children are in terms of the opportunities and trips they get here at Waiau School. A big thank you if you helped us with transport for any of these, it is such a huge help.

As you well know the Learning Conferences have been on this week Monday - Wednesday. This is an important time for us as a team of teacher, child and parents to be able to celebrate the achievement of your child. Jenny and I feel a huge amount of satisfaction and pride in your child as we are able to share with you the progress that has been made. Thank you for making it a priority to come to these, and please make sure you re-book your conference time with Jenny or I if you couldn't make it.

This Friday is a big day for us. HONEY WRAP forms are due in this Friday with the payments. I would love it if you could bring them back into school as soon as you have them ready. Thank you so much for your support with this. This money goes directly to our children's projects so we are hoping that we have sold as many as possible!

WORKING BEE this Friday at school from 3-5pm. I would really love to have your support with this. We have worked hard to get sponsorship for the plants, and I think it is important that we are able to present our school with pride. Please bring wheelbarrows, spades, and other gardening tools that you have. Many hands make light work and I know that in a few short hours we can make a massive difference. Thank you in advance for your generosity of time and effort in helping us with this.

It is with sadness that we say "see ya next time" to Jono and Ollie Simpson who have been with us in Room 2 this term. We have loved having them as part of our school whanau and they will be sorely missed. We count down the days till they return to us in Term 3 next year!

To our tamariki, have a wonderful holiday! I hope that you get time to relax and enjoy the company of your family and friends. Look after yourselves and others over the next two weeks.

And to our wonderful families of the school and community members, thank you for your support this term. I appreciate your positivity and enthusiasm for the work we are doing here at Waiau School.

Waiau School Working Bee

What: A working bee on our school gardens! We are super lucky to have received vouchers from Woodend Nurseries and CJ’s Nurseries so we will have lots of new plants to brighten things up. Jobs will include planting, adding bark to gardens, watering etc. You don’t

have to a gardener to come along, we just need people who are keen to help!

When: Friday 28th September (last day of term)

Where: At our wonderful school

Time: 3pm – 5pm

Bring: Enthusiasm, helpers and any gardening gear that you have e.g. spade, trowel, gardening gloves etc.

Why: Because we need your help! We are incredibly proud of our school and the wonderful learning and events that take place, and

we want our school’s appearance to reflect that. This is your school also and we would love your support to keep it

looking great!

Come along for a laugh, to spend time with others and do a mighty good deed for the day!

We will have a sausage sizzle to help keep our troops energized. We would love to see you there!

Expect trainsFrom October 2018 freight trains are operating day and night on the Main North Line between Christchurch and Picton. This is in addition to work trains and other high-rail vehicles that use the line to help with the Kaiko-ura earthquake recovery.

From December 2018 the Coastal Pacific passenger service will also resume with daily trains running throughout the summer season.

You may have become complacent around the tracks and level crossings since the earthquake in November 2016 but please take extra care to ensure you and your family stay safe.

Trains can come at any time, from either direction.
