constructive solutions Page 1 Nitoproof 120 & 130 Bituminous protective compounds Uses Nitoproof 120 and 130 are designed to provide a continuous waterproofing barrier. Used in conjunction with Nitoproof 100*, Nitoproof 120 and 130 will provide a dried film thickness complying with BS CP102 for concrete protection and waterproofing. Wherever a high build system is required to give increased protection over bitumen solutions coatings (e.g. Nitoproof 100) Nitoproof 120 or Nitoproof 130 should be used. Both materials can be used for repairs to felt/asphalt roofs. Advantages Asbestos free. Single component. Easily and inexpensively applied. Resistant to most naturally occurring chemicals. Odourless and taint free when dry. Excellent flexibility. Used for over 30 years in a wide range of temperatures and environments. Excellent adhesion to most common building substrates. Suitable for use in Middle East conditions. Description Nitoproof 120 and 130 are based on selected bitumens blended together with non-asbestos reinforcing fibres and solvents to provide two outstanding grades of material. Both Nitoproof 120 and Nitoproof 130 produce quality, high film build flexible bitumen coatings when dry. Nitoproof 120 is a liquid grade used for intermediate thickness coatings and Nitoproof 130 is a mastic grade used for very heavy applications and detailing works. Standards compliance Nitoproof 120 and 130 comply with the requirements of BS3416 for bitumen coatings for drinking water vessels. Also meets the requirements of AWWA C-104/A21.4-85. Chemical resistance Nitoproof 120 and 130 are resistant to water, aqueous salt solutions, common detergent solutions, mild mineral acid and alkali solutions. They are not resistant to organic solvents. Properties Specific gravity at 20 o C: Nitoproof 120 Nitoproof 130 1.17 1.29 Drying time: 4-8 hours at 20 o C for thickness up to 0.5 mm. Drying times will be longer for lower temperature and higher thicknesses. Flexibility (BS3416): Pass Instructions for use Surface preparation Preparation of surfaces prior to application of either Nitoproof 120 or 130 is important. Surface must be clean and dry and all loosely adhering particles such as rust mill scale mortar, cement laitence, should be carefully removed by wire or stiff brushing and finally soft brushing to remove dust. Surfaces must be free from oil and grease in the case of cementitious surfaces, oil and grease can be removed by the use of Fosroc Chemical Degreaser (see separate data sheet) and in the case of steel work, oil or grease should be removed by a suitable degreasing solvent such as Fosroc Solvent 103. It is advisable always to prime with Nitoproof 100 bitumen solution on surfaces which are to receive coatings of Nitoproof 120 or 130. This will ease the brushing or trowelling of these heavy bodied materials and ensure their better coverage and adhesion. Application General Nitoproof 120 can be applied by brush, roller or spray equipment. Nitoproof 130 can be applied by steel trowel. Apply Nitoproof 100* as a prime coat onto prepared substrate. Apply the appropriate grade of compound evenly over the dry primed surface. Avoid forming pools and overfilling hollows as much as possible otherwise usage rate and drying will be increased. To comply with BS CP102:1973, Nitoproof 120 and 130 should be applied at the rate of 1 litre per m 2 . Economy roof membrane for non-critical arms For low cost roofing applications, the roof slab should be at least 28 days old and the surface prepared for priming with Nitoproof 100*.

Cracks will be highlighted as the bitumen coating dries and when completely dry should be dealt with as follows: Nitoproof 130 should be trowel applied over the crack at 1 mm thickness, 50 mm either side. Nitoproof Scrim reinforcement should then be embedded into the Nitoproof 130 then over-coated with a second 1 mm thick application. Vertical up-stands should be coated with Nitoproof 130 after the Nitoproof 100 Primer has dried and turned down onto the deck for 75 mm forming a 20 mm x 20 mm filet at the corner. When the Nitoproof 130 mastic has dried, Nitoproof 120 should be applied to the whole roof area at 1 mm thick (1 litre per m2) over-coating all preparatory work. After 7 days the whole roof area should be coated with Nitoproof Reflectacoat solar reflective coating. Care should be taken not to damage the membrane whilst the Nitoproof Reflectacoat is being applied. After a further 3 days a second coat should be applied. For accessible roofs subject to regular foot traffic or for fully insulated roofs please contact Fosroc for advice. Cleaning Clean all tools and equipments with Fosroc Solvent 103.

Precautions Health and safety Remove spillages from skin with soap and water or a resin removing cream such as Kerocleanse 22. Do not use Solvent. Any eye contamination should be washed with copious quantities of water and medical treatment sought. If ingested obtain medical attention. Do not induce vomiting. Avoid prolonged inhalation of the vapour. Ensure adequate ventilation. Fire Nitoproof 120, 130 and Fosroc Solvent 103 are flammable. No smoking during use. In the event of fire extinguish with CO2 or foam.
