The NITK - Summ ! I"# !"$%&' P!()!*mm +NITK-SIP aims to promote awareness andinterest in good quality academic research among young students of Engineering, BasicSciences, Management and Humanities through an Internship during summer vacation. Theinternships will e financially supported y the !ational Institute of Technology "arnata#a,Surath#al. Totally 0 &"# !"$%&'$ will e provided. Students selected from eligi leapplicants, will get the opportunity to wor# on research mini$pro%ects under the mentorship of !IT" faculty during the coming summer vacation & 2 #% M*/ 2014 12 #% u / 2014 '.

E &)&3& / Students who are presently completing the third year &or si(th semester'B.Tech) BE, and students completing the first year &or second semester' of M.Tech) ME)M.Sc.) MB* are eligi le to apply for !IT"$SI+. Selection of interns will e made y respective

departments ased on academic performance in university e(aminations, paper presentations at conferences)wor#shops, pro%ects e(ecuted, design contests participated,and other awards) distinctions o tained. +reference will e given to students from Institutionswith which !IT" has an Mo for academic and research cooperation.

C("#* # P !&(6 Students selected for !IT"$SI+ are required to e present in the campusand carry out the allotted pro%ect wor# over a contact period of minimum - days and ama(imum of /0 days etween 2 #% M*/ 2014 12 #% u / 2014

The Interns will e provided access to the 4entral 5i rary and the4entral 4omputer 4enter, at !IT". *ccommodation will we provided to the students in !IT"Hostels.

A'' & *#&(" Students interested in !IT"$SI+, are required to send a research proposal along with the application form and necessary enclosures y speed$post to the Head of the 1epartment where the student wishes to carry out the internship. *n advance copy of theapplication must also e sent y email to the Head of the 1epartment along with scannedcopies of relevant documents. The research proposal must contain a detailed description of the research pro lem that the student wishes to wor# on, along with a rief introduction tothe pro lem, the proposed wor# plan, and the e(pected outcome of the pro%ect wor#.

A66&("* 9 #*& $6 * faculty-mentor will e allotted to each student selected for !IT"$SI+,from the relevant department. *fter finali7ing the area of study in consultation with the faculty mentor each student is required to su mit an initial report &of 8$9 pages' containingintroduction to the pro%ect topic, the wor#$plan for the research wor# and the e(pectedoutcome of the pro%ect.

:n completion of the !IT"$SI+ program, each student is required to su mit a detailed technical report &of 9 $- pages', containing description of the research pro lem, literaturesurvey, details of the methodology adopted, details of the e(periments carried out, list of items procured for the pro%ect and the findings) conclusions of the study. The intern is alsorequired to present his wor# through a seminar in the department, which will form the asisfor assessment of the pro%ect wor#. :n successful completion of the pro%ect, the intern will eawarded a (mm "6*#&(" !#& & *# y !IT".
