Mandate : To provide Owner's Engineering services for the design and construction of the 36 MW gas fired combined cycle plant at Nipigon, Ontario. Description : Nipigon Power Plant is adjacent to an existing TransCanada Pipelines natural gas compressor station. It utilizes waste heat from an existing Rolls Royce RB-211 gas turbine compressor drive to generate steam to augment the new combined cycle plant. The combined cycle plant comprises a 22 MW GE LM2500 aero-derivative gas turbine generator, an advanced once through heat recovery boiler and a 16 MW steam turbine generator. The fuel is natural gas. The combined cycle plant is TransCanada Pipelines first Canadian power project. Services provided : SNC-Lavalin provided feasibility study; detailed engineering; procurement service, including plant layout, detailed design, equipment specifications, bid evaluations, installation specifications.

Assistance to TransCanada Pipelines in construction management, commissioning and training.
