Combined cycle - Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC)

1 An integrated gasification combined cycle, or IGCC, is a power plant using

synthesis gas (syngas). Syngas can be produced from a number of sources,

including coal and biomass. The system utilizes gas and steam turbines, the

steam turbine operating off of the heat leftover from the gas turbine. This

process can raise electricity generation efficiency to around 50%.

Kedzierzyn Zero-Emission Plant - Concept

1 The zero carbon emissions are planned to be achieved by the

combination of integrated gasification combined cycle and

carbon capture and storage, as well as the supplement of up to 10%

biomass in the combustion process

Kedzierzyn Zero-Emission Plant - Gasification of coal

1 Coal is converted into synthesis gas by the integrated gasification

combined cycle technology. CO2 separation is required in order to

obtain a gas composition adequate for further processing. As a result of

the gas purification process the obtained CO2 has a concentration of

up to 99%, which permits its commercial use or storage.

Coal gasification

1 In current practice, large-scale instances of coal gasification are

primarily for electricity generation, such as in integrated gasification combined cycle power plants, for

production of chemical feedstocks, or for production of synthetic natural

gas

Coal gasification - Carbon capture technology

1 Gasification and integrated gasification combined cycle’s unique ability to easily remove CO2 from the

syngas prior to its combustion in a gas turbine (called pre-combustion CO2 capture) or its use in fuels or chemicals synthesis is one of its

significant advantages over conventional coal utilization systems.

FutureGen - Technology overview

1 Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) was the core technology behind FutureGen. IGCC power plants use two

turbines – a gas and a steam turbine – to produce electric power more efficiently than pulverized coal plants. IGCC plants

also make it easier to capture carbon dioxide for carbon sequestration.

Integrated Gasification Fuel Cell Cycle

1 A power cycle based on gasification of solid fuel and SOFCs is called an

Integrated Gasification Fuel Cell (IGFC) cycle; the IGFC power plant is

analogous to an integrated gasification combined cycle power

plant, but with the gas turbine power generation unit replaced with a fuel cell (high temperature type such as

SOFC) power generation unithttps://store.theartofservice.com/the-integrated-gasification-combined-cycle-toolkit.html

Integrated Gasification Fuel Cell Cycle - Process Configuration

1 Due to the inherently efficient SOFC, and to using recovered SOFC exhaust heat to generate additional electric power, an IGFC system is capable of operating at a high electric efficiency
