The international playhouse design competition organized by Bob Borson, founder of Life of an Architect, presented an opportunity to challenge my creativity.

The winning playhouses were constructed and auctionned to benefit the Dallas Court of Appointed Special Advocates. CASA is a non-profit organization of community volunteers who legally represent abused and neglected children in court. Out of 1,100 submissions from 85 countries and 26 finalists, I was chosen as 1 of the 3 winners of the competition.

The White Owl’s Den was auctioned off to directly benefit CASA and the young minds they represent.

Borden Bldg. ExpansionARCHITECTURE

The AVSSU challenges participants to refurbish and/or add extensions to the Borden Buildings to better suit the current needs of students in the Visual Studies Program, the LGBTQ+ community, and the Indigenous community that currently reside in the building.

The proposal creates a welcoming atmosphere using openness in its form and materials. The additional entrances encased in curtain-walls symbolize cultural growth while showing transparency in individual identity. It also focuses on the efficient flow of vertical and horizontal circulation between both North and South buildings. An additional bridge is provided on the third floor to promote effortless access between both structures, eliminating the need to always traverse the second-floor bridge. There is also an emphasis on implementing accessibility strategies to promote inclusive design.

Rome accumulates thousands of years of history in its streets. Today, the city of Rome offers a different scenario according to society we live in marked by the mobility, technology and individuality.

For this reason, ARCHmedium challenges participants to rethink spiritual and worship spaces in the cities. A single temple for the dialogue of all religions, a common place for all creeds. Rome Contemporary Chapel aims to be a place of encounter, a space for dialogue and hope for peace in a complex world.

It Takes a VillageARCHITECTURE

As part of Canada’s 150th anniversary, Aga Khan Foundation Canada and Just Food invited students from across Canada to submit a design proposal for an outdoor pavilion for a new community garden in Ottawa, Ontario.

The outdoor pavilion will serve as a public gathering place at the farm, inviting visitors to reflect on the importance of local and global issues. For Canada’s 150th anniversary, the design of the pavilion will create a space that reflects shared Canadian values of inclusion, diversity, dialogue, and community building.

The Passive HabitatARCHITECTURE

The Passive Habitat highlights the use of sustainability and environmentally concious materials. The building required LEED certification and to meet the site restrictions of a pre-existing property. We used the opportunity to implement new technologies in the home, while designing to optimize natural energy saving techniques to develop a sustainable residential design.

The Green WorksARCHITECTURE

The Green Works project challenged us to combine two separate structures erected at different elevations. The site consisted of a preexisting heritage building that had to be retrofit for accessibility purposes, while maintaining its historic value. The next challenge was to integrate heritage with modernity while introducing sustainability and accessibility features.

Sketching the Line

Sketching the Line is a direct reference to TTC’s public exhibition that aims capture transit commuter moments in the form of drawings. As a frequent commuter of TTC, this was an opportunity for me to use this as my subject matter of my diptych.

The aim is to visually express the difference between a ‘drawing’ and a ‘painting’, juxtaposing hasty monochromatic sketch lines to colourful paintbrush strokes. When viewed together, the two canvases form a single image of the interior of a subway. Its misarranged form represents the bustling movements of the subway, and the two canvases work together to form a sense of progress – from the idea to the real, from ‘drawing’ to ‘painting’.
