TEAMWORK ONLINE
NFL’s Meredith Battin Visits Sport Management Students
Long Beach, CA – Students from the current learning teams of the Graduate Program in
Sport Management came together for the All Learning Team Event on November 6th, 2014
in The Hall of Science Building on campus.
The theme for the evening was ‘Sports and the Media Landscape’ and it was facilitated by
Meredith Battin from the NFL Media Group based in Culver City. Meredith oversees the
Integrated Marketing team for the NFL where she is responsible for the development of
custom campaign solutions for the advertisers and sponsors that run advertisements on all
of the NFL’s digital platforms as well as NFL Network. During the course of her session,
Meredith discussed a number of topics including the value of content in today’s media
landscape, content distribution trends, monetization strategies and fan engagement. Stu-
dents were also tasked with developing a social media strategy for the NFL encompassing
all the new techniques they had learned during the session.
There were also a number of special guests in attendance on the evening including GPSM
alum Aiyana Welsh (LT 23) and Mr. Vito Lanuti, President-Elect of the Long Beach Century
Club. Mr. Lanuti spoke to the Learning Teams about the work that the organization does
with promoting and supporting amateur
athletics in the city of Long Beach.
Along with learning about developing
business relationships, the students were
able to network among their peers and
invited guests throughout the night
including GPSM Associate Director Steve
Buchan, Manager of Student Affairs Diane
Higgs, and Internship Coordinator Dedan
Brozino.

SNAPSHOT: LISA CHOW & WORLD GAMES
Give the Gift of Joy This Christmas!
Feeling generous during the holiday season? How about donating a tax-deductible
amount to Special Olympics in honor of that special someone? It takes $2,500 to
fund one athlete’s participation in the Worlds Games 2015 and we could use your
help, whatever amount you can give! By supporting these athletes as they live out
their dreams in front of us, you will open hearts and minds. You will expand our col-
lective sense of acceptance and inclusion. You will remind everyone of the courage,
joy, and determination we share. Financial donations are accepted here and volun-
teer sign-up is here!
Ever wonder what our students do in the
industry upon graduation? Check out what Lisa
Chow (LT 24) will be doing with her new
position with Special Olympics World Games LA
2015.
“I am the Hub Manager, Spectator Services—
UCLA for Special Olympics World Games LA
2015. I am working with Aiyana Welsh (LT 23) in
Spectator Services. Currently the department is
only the two of us but will be expanding quick-
ly! We are in charge of developing an in-depth
understanding of the overall Spectator Services operations of all hubs and venues
including access control ingress and egress routes, mobility assistance plans,
seating area management and spectator flow. I will also be managing Spectator
Services Venue Managers and training and managing Spectator Services volunteers
during the Games and leading up to the Games.
My specific Hub is UCLA which will include eight different sport venues across
campus that will host seven different sport competitions. The seven are Football-
Soccer: 5-a-side and 11-a-side, Gymnastics: Rhythmic and Artistic, Judo, Softball,
Tennis and Volleyball. UCLA will also be used as a non-competition venue for
Athlete Village, Healthy Athletes, and the Special Olympic Festival.
Special Olympics World Games LA 2015
is going to be the largest sports and
humanitarian event in the world next
year with 7,000 athletes coming from
177 countries and I am very excited to
be working with the team!”
Help support Special
Olympics athletes today!

LT 26 Gets the Inside Scoop on Marketing with RMD Group
Alex Jimenez Weighs in on Her First Semester
On Saturday, December 6th Learn-
ing Team 26 visited RMD Group,
based in Long Beach, to learn more
about experiential marketing.
RMD Group is one of the top 10
experiential marketing agencies in
the U.S. with clients such as Ford,
Red Bull, Lexus and Toyo Tires.
CEO and President Ralph Holguin

ing cars to becoming a marketing expert and how hard work can carry you to
your professional aspirations. The visit included tour of their offices and facto-
ry floor. For more information on RMD Group, please visit http://

The best way I could describe this first semester is challenging yet entertaining. I kept
my position with Live Nation and have been blessed to intern with Rose Bowl Stadium,
Pro Camps, and LA Kings. I entered this program knowing there would be a lot of hard
work ahead, but did not anticipate the amount of opportunities headed my way. Many
called me crazy for taking on so much....and they were probably right. But I have gained
so much more experience than I could ever imagine. Thank you Steve for making me
write an additional thank you note, it helped me get one of the best internships with LA
Kings. So cheers to new experiences and all the ones we have all yet to encounter.
The GPSM Family would like to wish you happy holidays and a happy new year!
