Reminders to membership:
1) Susan DuBios ([email protected]) is tracking our TACtile
usage. So ALWAYS cc her when scheduling guild-related meetings at TACtile
2) The hospitality committee requests that members bring their own mugs for
coffee/tea. This contribution will help reduce the time spent after guild meetings
cleaning up.
3) Any and all help setting up and taking down the room is needed and
appreciated. If you are interested in helping please be at TACtile between 8:00-
8:30am.
For the Potluck: everyone is invited to bring a favorite or otherwise special
dish to share. It would be appreciated if along with your dish there was an
ingredient list for those with food allergies or other special diets.
RMWG December food donation this year will go to EFFA (Emergency
Family Food Assistance) in Boulder County. In light of the flooding and
hardship of Boulder County (which includes communities like Jamestown,
Longmont, Lyons, and Left-Hand Canyon) it seems appropriate to direct
these donations to communities hard hit and in need of more support.
Boxes will be placed in the back end of a car parked ground floor near the
door of Tactile at the Dec meeting for donations.
The EFFA website asks for the following donations with some guidelines
following:
Canned Tuna Canned Fruit
Hearty Soups Peanut Butter
Chicken Broth Toilet Paper
Mashed Potato Mix Large Diapers
Cereal
We accept packaged goods that are up to one year past expiration.
We accept perishables in good condition with little to no bruising or
damage.
We accept toiletries and household products, such as toilet paper, hair
products, household cleaning products, laundry detergent, diapers and
toothpaste.
If you would like to learn more about this wonderful organization you can
take a look at their website: http://www.efaa.org/donate/
Also: The Reference Library will be open for guild members to use on
Thursday December 19th from 1:30-3:30 pm. For a description of the
Reference Library, a list of books, and the snow policy, please see the
RMWG website.
Using a new weaving structure or technique, or something new altogether – spinning, felting, nuno
felting, dyeing or some other related fun fiber thing to do, complete a project that best fits your
interpretation of one of the following categories:
1. Are your edges putting you on edge
2. Using crammed and spaced warp threads
3. A work in progress
4. A big project from a small loom
5. Twill(ing) Really is Thrilling
6. Get skinny over the fold
7. When disaster strikes
8. Deconstruct and reinvent
[Thanks to Melissa Ludden Hanken for these categories]
Looking forward to seeing some fun things at the May 2014 fashion show/luncheon.

We are still checking out locations. I was informed we will have an update from TacTile on their
search the first week of December. Again, if anyone has any connections with art districts, city council,
churches, granges, community centers, etc. that might have a place we could meet, please check it out
or give me the information. The big issue is still finding a location within a price range we can afford
and having space for storage. We have recently obtained information on a couple of sites that we are
checking out. Several would be able to house us as well as TacTile, some would be large enough just
for our group. We have also looked at the possibility of finding about 2000 sq. ft. of office space or
store front space that would be willing to lease the space at a reduced rate for non-profit groups. If
anyone knows of a realtor who might be able to assist or space available, please let me know. Still
could use some help with this if anyone is available.
Happy Holidays

Dye Garden Study Group Update
Thank you all for making our annual Fiber Arts Sale a success!!!
Final numbers have not yet come in as we are waiting for a few bills to arrive; but, as of now, we sold
$35,267.50 for a profit of $2,485.37!! This profit is $900.00 more than last year. We are thrilled! The
Sales Analysis can be found on our website.
We have had to change the Sale dates for next year (2014). The Englewood Civic Center wants to use
the Community Room for their voting machines. The Sales Committee is looking at a later date in
November and, as soon as we hear from Englewood, we will pass the information on to you.
We are also looking for a Props Manager and Set Up Manager for next year’s Sale. If you are
interested, please contact me.
Again, thank you for your support, and we hope you have a Happy Holiday Season!!

I was contacted by an individual whose mother was a
master weaver and a member of Cross County Weavers.
She would like someone to look at her mother’s
collection and possibly give her some direction as to
whether there might be a museum or organization that
might be interested in adding them to their collection. If
you would be able to do this, please let me know.

It’s time to start assembling your fiber-related equipment, books, and yarn or other fiber goods that
you would like to sell to other members. This is not like the Annual Guild Sale; sellers set up their
own tables and handle sales. So, bring cash to make change and decide what other types of payment
you’ll accept.
Then take advantage of this opportunity to re-supply your stash, since you now will have made plenty
of room.
The Members-to-Members Sale will be the January program, so everyone will have plenty of time to
browse and buy.
Reserve your table now. The fee for a table is $10.00 and goes to the Guild General Fund. Complete
the coupon below, enclose $10.00 (check to RMWG), and send to Carol Garnand. Reservation must
be received by January 16, 2014. You must be a member to sell.

In the two day workshop, we learned to use fabric paints and stencils on
the warp, before weaving. Designing with positive and negative shapes
and using over-lapping stencils to show perspective were some of the
techniques demonstrated by Elda. We wove with various wefts – plain
weave gave an ikat look to the fabric. Incidental threads were inserted in
the warp for another design look. It was a great learning experience to
interact and observe the other participants.
Elda Kohl is truly a lady and fabulous designer. With no formal training,
she sews exquisitely and makes the inside of her clothing as elegant as the
outside. Elda has moved from our area; but will continue to do her
design work.

Look at what will be for sale in the Silent Auction!
This 4 shaft floor loom has 6 pedals for a wide variety of tie-ups. It has a lot of wood slats in the

February 2013 Weaving Workshop with Pamela Bliss
Crammed and Spaced: Messin’ with the Sett
1 & 1/2 Days, Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15 & Sunday Feb. 16, 2014
Location: TACtile
Workshop Coordinator: Dale Zitek, [email protected], 303-763-7107.
Changing the sett across a piece can have a dramatic effect. Simple threadings become lovely curved designs
when the sett is increased and decreased in a regular fashion. In this round-robin workshop participants will
learn how to calculate sett variations as well as where to place them in the threading for maximum impact. You
will also discuss and experiment with color choices. Different threadings and yarn sizes will be assigned to
individuals so that each of you may go home with a good idea of the possibilities that can result from “messin’
with the sett.”
Saturday afternoon you will learn how to calculate “cramming and spacing” to produce viable fabric as well as
stunning effects. Each student will fill out a planning sheet that Pamela will copy for Sunday. On Sunday you
will weave samples in a round robin format.
Level: Participants need be able to read a draft and warp a loom. (It doesn’t matter if you warp front to back
or back to front.) Maximum Number of Participants: 10
Total Workshop Fee: $130.00 — Materials Fee: Minimal, copies of handouts, including planning sheet for
each sample woven & general guidelines for weaving crammed and spaced.
Participants Need: A warped loom (4 shafts, 8 if you have it – the more shafts, the more interesting & fun the
“play” with setts). Pamela will supply specifics closer to the workshop date.
Additional Supplies Students Need to Bring: Supplies to sley your reed and weave, pencil, paper, scissors, etc.
Pamela would love participants to use “stash yarns” so will be conferring with you closer to the workshop date.
She is hoping for a variety of yarn sizes and colors so participants can explore this fun topic to its fullest.
January 2014 Workshop with Peg MacMorris
Introductory Weaving Class for Guild Members in January after the Member to Member Sale
Basic introduction to weaving – jargon and hands-on practice. This is designed to be a class for non-weavers
who would like to explore weaving at an introductory level. We will weave on rigid heddle (RH) looms set up
with demo projects and you will learn how to set up the loom from the beginning. The RH looms will be
introduced in the context of other kinds of looms as well.
If there are guild members who weave but have never tried the rigid heddle loom, they may attend to learn the
unique features of the RH looms and the ease of direct warping, if there is space available.
Maximum: 10 students. Class will begin after the sale: 1:30 – approx 4:30, beginning in the Board room, then
moving into the large space as it becomes available. Peg MacMorris, teacher. Email
([email protected]) for any questions. Register through Guild Workshops.

Location: Recycled Lamb, 2081 Youngfield St, Golden, CO 80401
Workshop Coordinator: Dale Zitek, [email protected], 303-763-7107
Sheila O’Hara is a world renowned, master weaver whose work is in institutions all over the
world, including the Denver Art Museum. This workshop is your opportunity to gain a hands-
on understanding of multiple warp weaving, both with and without pick-up, a unique structure
that Sheila herself developed. Sheila has designed this three-day workshop so you not only learn
structure and technique but also so you should go home with the knowledge to complete a
beautiful multishaft reversible scarf that you will start in class.. (See Handwoven, Sep/Oct, 2002,
pp 24-27, to see an example of a double-faced twill scarf. We’ll have a copy the article at the meetings so you can see
what we’re talking about.) Both 8 and 16 shaft drafts will be covered. For those interested in even more design elements,
Sheila will show all of you how to incorporate additional pick-up techniques.
Level: Intermediate Maximum Number of Participants: 20
Total Workshop Fee: $195.00. Deposit: $65.00. Balance of $130.00 due February 1, 2013.
Materials Fee. $7.00, warping instructional sheet, plus 30+/- page instructional handout.
Participants Need: 8-shaft table loom, pre-warped as per instructions, which will be sent to students before the class.

which is not a limitation with table looms.)
Additional Supplies Students Need to Bring: Warp and weft yarns (10/2 or 5/2 cotton), pencil, eraser, white-out, scissors,
tape measure, shuttles, ruler, four felt pens (red, yellow, blue, black), colored pencils, 10 or 8 squares per inch graph

Workshop Coordinator: Carol Garnand, [email protected], 303-579-8120
Wanted: Participants that dare to risk being different in their artistic approach to surface design on cloth! Produce
painted samples that scream with originality. No previous silk painting skills are necessary for this fast paced and
inspirational workshop.

constructs-deconstruct. AFTERNOON-hands on application using the following painting techniques on a silk surface:
thickened and liquid dye brush work, stenciling, mono-printing, and line work with a metal tipped applicator bottle.
Demonstrations by Janas and the showing of her painted silk samples will be used to facilitate her instructions.
DAY TWO: Taking the experimental experiences to the next creative level by producing a surface design work on a
large piece of silk (or bring your own cloth, natural fibers only). The work utilizes an overlapping of some of DAY
ONE’S techniques. Sophistication of design, color and texture will be uniquely accomplished. The finished painted
work will be a piece of yardage (35”x35”) that can be incorporated in other cloth work as a garment lining or attachment,
scarf, wall hanging, et cetera...

Location: Recycled Lamb, 2081 Youngfield St, Golden, CO 80401
Workshop Coordinator: Carol Garnand, [email protected], 303-579-8120
Weavers! Quilters! Dyers! Fiber artists of all stripes! Looking for another textile technique to breathe new life into your
current work? Come learn about Nuno-Felt, make a collage, fashion with fine wool fibers and a layer of various silk
fabrics into a large sheet or smaller pieces, to be incorporated into handwoven garments, or as focal points in wall pieces,
or whatever you dream of.
You will begin with color and texture samples, and then lay out and “rock-n-roll” as large a piece of nuno-felt as you can
handle and time permits. You’ll discuss finishing and further development for incorporating this exciting fabric into
YOUR fiber work. This is a very physical process, so students must be prepared to work standing up, for several hours
at a time, and have good upper body strength. Some felting experience preferred, but not necessary. Pre-workshop
communication encouraged.

ROOKIES
Rookies: Rookies Out of Bounds (ROB – new name!) is a group of comprised of weavers from a variety of
levels from beginner to advanced. We meet the first Wednesday evening of the month, rotating the meeting
location among the members’ homes. We set up a study/challenge each year to expand our knowledge of
weaving. This year (2013-2014) is still under discussion. We have talked about everything from mug rugs (using
various techniques) to taquete; and a little in between. For more info contact Bev Kajko @ 303-916-9613 or
Annie Scherer@ 303-963-5450 or email [email protected].
DYE GARDEN STUDY GROUP (NEW!)
A new guild study group has formed to develop the Janice Ford Memorial Dye Garden at the Denver Botanical
Garden at Chatfield. We will be growing (with the assistance of the DBG) a variety of natural dye plants, which
we will also be studying as they are chosen and planted. We will be able to use the DBG facilites to harvest and
dye using the plants–but we’ll need to help maintain the garden. Right now, the garden is just getting started with
fencing, soil preparation, and irrigation planning. If you are interested in joining, please contact
[email protected] so we can get you in on the email mailing list.
