Welcome WordsWelcome to everyone and thank you for coming to an ELRIG meetingthat focuses on the hugely exciting area of Next Generation Sequencing-Technologies & Future Applications, some would say there could not be abetter place to hold such a meeting than here at Hinxton Hall.

We are delighted to present an enticing programme of top qualityspeakers from academia and industry and they will be telling us aboutsome of the world class research in the field, delivering what promises tobe an entertaining and informative program of lectures and discussions. As always, the scientific program will be complemented by a postersession and a vibrant exhibition featuring a number of vendors who havenot been to an ELRIG event before, giving attendees the opportunity toreview the latest developments in both reagents and instrumentationbeing offered.

ELRIG is a not-for-profit organisation and our raison detre is tosupport the development of the industry by organising thesefree-to-attend scientific conferences, as well as offering training awardsand bursaries. I urge all of you to join ELRIG’s community on Linked-in,Twitter and Facebook, in order to help or benefit from what we do. Tomake this possible, ELRIG run a trade exhibition alongside the scientificcomponent of the conference and I would urge all delegates to visit thebooths of those vendors here today. Without their support, this and ourfuture conference program, would not be possible.

Also, as a not-for-profit organisation, ELRIG is dependent on anumber of volunteers to aid in the organisation of our events and I wouldlike to offer them and the Scientific Committee, ably led by conferencedirector Alberto Bresciani, a very special thank you for bringing us today’sprogram.

We also thank the ELRIG staff, Jackie Howard and Dermot Boylan, fortheir tireless efforts in ensuring that the conference actually happens, andis a typical ELRIG success.

We hope you enjoy your time with us today and will continue tosupport ELRIG in our future events.
