Next Generation Energy Initiative

N-Gen-NY

N-GEN-NY

Transformation in today’s electrical system

Next generation of energy will see a series of

Distributed Energy Resources (DER)

These DER’s will be owned and operated by

independent (non-utility) entities

The drivers for these changes are two-fold:

Policy Drivers

Political targets and mandates

Financial incentives

Technology Drivers

Technology cost reductions

New enabling technologies

Service innovations 2

N-GEN Transformation

3

This transformation will see the change from

large, central station power plants with one way

energy transmission to DER’s with two way

transmission.

DER’s owned and operated by communities

Current Energy System Future Energy System

Community Smart Grid Model

4

Community Smart Grid Model JCIDA becomes both a producer and consumer

Generation of their own renewable energy;

Management of their energy requirements through Micro Grid technologies.

Provides long term Energy Diversification providing consistent renewable energy over the next 20 years

Provides economic development and job creation

Proposed Scope of Work

12

Multiple phase proposal with the objective:

Utilizing natural gas components such as CHP and Generators for the base load/peaks, and

Renewables such as Solar for peak demand shaving.

Twelve-month assessment of their current energy environment. A smart meter deployment at the four locations shown on

their maps. This gives us the exact energy utilization and the exact times of peak demand charges (if possible).

A rooftop solar implementation at the County Office Building and the County Court Complex under 200kw.

A small Smart Grid software solution for the two buildings (if possible).

A twelve month analytical study of their consumption with recommendations for Phase two.
